How do you know when you have a lock??? please help

I have used the "satellite status" tip from another thread and left my phone at a 45 degree angle searching.

I have 5 satellite signals all black but when i go to "maps" the dish still has an X next to it. How do I know when it is locked and ready to go.

What am I doing wrong?

If you are using the GPS data application to display satellite status then closing it down and going into maps you'll have to wait for a lock again.

Start maps then go to Options > View > satellite info

When you have at least 3 black bars, hit back and the x should be gone.

Or you can 'hotwire' the GPS by leaving the GPS Data application running in the background. Can be useful in some scenario's so I thought I'd throw that in.
