Copilot 6 for N95
Hi friends,
Hello to everybody. I visited this forum a few times before and found it extremely informative, hence became a member today. So this is my first post.
I am planning to buy a N95 in near future and one of the holds up was, its inability to use 3rd party GPS maps. However I saw the following: CoPilot Live 6 UK (Software & Maps) for Nokia N95 –

could this be true?

Sure looks true to me. Most of us here are waiting for TomTom 6 to support the internal GPS, but there are many other GPS programs available that support the GPS today. Most of them are sub-standard in my opinion, but Co-Pilot 6 is certainly one of the better ones, some rate it almost as much as TomTom.
If you end up purchasing it, please don't forget to share your experiences with everyone on the forum!
Thanks!

I'm curious... and maybe I should start a new thread on this... but do you really think the nokia software is that inferior to tomtom or wayfinder or any other program out there? I've had no problems... and the (very) few times I've ever been misdirected by the software it hasn't really been a problem... and I assume that ALL software has problems...
so what the best one, and why?

Is the real issue not that we receive a top phone with Maps and the Nokia Maploader etc but have no voice nav? Nokia recently acquired 2 of the big players in GPS why send all owners out to a 3rd party supplier? I am quite annoyed at having to buy extra software for a device that touts itself as being the real thing and biggest breakthrough in a new era of phones.
It is not about the money its is the principle.I can afford it but why go and buy software to operate a phone properly or fully when that is one of it's biggest selling points?

I'll reserve my comment on that until TomTom supports the internal GPS, that's the only other program I would consider to replace Nokia Maps.
BUT, having said that, I do actually really like the Nokia Maps program, and I really can't wait to get my hands on the new version. Where the HELL IS IT!?!?!?!?

The graphics look decent, way better than the ugly R66 thats for sure.
Would be nice if we could install a trial version.

I have a friend in Melbourne who used it and swears by it, I think the map coverage for Aus is really good.
The Nokia Maps coverage is really good in the UK, I just hope that the coverage is good for Melbourne too...

Well... for me, the reason I like TomTom so much, is the features is provides- the routing is the best I've seen so far. Many people have issues with the route calculation of the Maps program- I think this can be solved from selecting "fastest" to "shortest"- someone has mentioned here before that it makes a world of difference. Perhaps this will be improved upon with the coming version.
The biggest selling point of the TomTom software is the interface (can I say that word without mentioning the iPhone anymore?). TomTom's interface is simply unparalleled by any other software I've come across. To date- I've used TomTom (and still do- everyday), Route66, Wayfinder7, Nav4All, MGMaps, GoogleMaps, and Wayfinder Earth. Next up is MobileNavigator 6 (Navigon) and CoPilot. I'm interested in both of those products- but none of them interest me like the prospect of some day running TT6 on my N95 without an external GPS. In the meantime, I'm happy to carry a self powered GPS.
