geo-tagging

Has anyone tried the geo-tagging application for the N95 from locr?

I tried it. Works pretty good actually. I found however, that it is better to take the pic with the built in app then geotag it with the locr app. If you take the pic with the locr app it eliminates that step but the quality of the photo is poor

I am just experimenting with it because it claims to update the EXIF properties of the picture. However when I send the resulting file to my PC, Picasa doesn't see the geotagging and neither does Irfan View! According to this page on the Free Geography Tools site, locr doesn't write the GPSVersionID tag correctly, or at least in a way that can be recognised by Picasa and others. So more research required...

I'm still hanging out for the robust, in-built, driven-by-options, developed-by-Nokia, integrated-GPS-camera version!

Yeah locr is of no use if you like to upload your images on picasa because it writes the geo-info as a comment attached to the image and not on an exif tag .
These applications, like shozu, are going close to it but are still not perfect... I'm waiting for nokia to release something official, it should be just an option in the camera program, not such a big deal!

Thanks for that insight, I had read that it was in the EXIF but couldn't find it. Opened photo in IrfanView and checked out Information and then Comments which I hadn't noticed before and there it was:

LOCR:1
-33.7754314929740
151.0928499081240

So that's why other software doesn't find it. I wish these guys would get with the sharing program. They want to lock you into their solution evidently - didn't they learn anything from the Linux experience?

The Picasa Geotag with Google Earth puts these items into EXIF GPS properties (different photo BTW) as found by IrfanView:

GPS information: -
GPSVersionID - 0.0.2.2
GPSLatitudeRef - S
GPSLatitude - 33 49 29.69
GPSLongitudeRef - E
GPSLongitude - 151 3 52.61
GPSAltitudeRef - Sea level
GPSAltitude - 0 m

Yes, geotagging has a way to go. I got it working with both locr and shozu for uploading to flickr; but trying to take pictures while gps is running crashed my phone a fair amount of the time. But I look forward to the next piece of geotagging software - or maybe nokia will just write it straight into the photo software...

On this page

it says "Location tagging functionality has now been productized, and Nokia Location Tagger will not be further developed as standalone application".

Great! It's been productized! *But* where/when will see it? A vital bit of information methinks to help us decide whether to download the standalone apps or whether to hang out for the productized version.
