New member here... 2nd post..:p
well hello everyone, i had my phone for 4 days now...i been playing with my
n95-4 8gb and i found out like all of u that the mini usb does not work for charging and using the phone as modem sucks out the life of the battery faster than a dog chewing a 16z steak stolen from my dads grill....
i have come with a solution kinda hard if u dont have moderate experience with soldering. so i opened my
n95 n thought of something,..... hey wat if i power the chargin port with the pins from the mini usb? and voala!!! works like a charm!!!
so now to the explanation.(remember i do not take responsibility if u mess up ur phone, this is totally under ur responsibility., so do it slowly and careful.)
1.Disassemble ur phone till u reach the main board.
2.Remove the mini usb duster...
3.Remove the mini usb shield thats prevents u from accessing the pins.
4.The first pin is going to be the one first to the left if u have the mini usb facing ur belly,
solder a wire from there to the original charging contact point, the one all the way to the right wich is the +.
5.The ground can be taken from anywhere in the mini usb port, i soldered a wire from the outter usb housing to the - of the charging port.
6.Review the installation and isolate every point as needed.
7.Assemble and enjoy.
im sorry for the confusing explenation but im kinda at work so i gotta do this quick.
please post any questions anyone might have.
p.s: the only downside to this is that every time u plug the original charger in the phone, the mini usb will power up and ask u what mode u want to connect the phone to pc(i think this could be fixed with a couple of diodes.ill try to work on that.)...
other then that everything works like a charm.
\sorry i didnt take pics since i didnt have a cam with me, ill try to post a video of the phone in action.
heres the choppy video...
