Cheap handsfree car kit

Hi All,

Just thought I may be able to help with a cheap version of a handsfree car kit, which will also allow you to play music in your car....

you will need....

1. the remote that (hopefully) came with your N95.
2. an FM FM transmitter ( I can personally recommend a Belkin Tuncast 3)
3. Cradles for the phone and transmitter, or some Blu-tack, or some other way of sticking stuff onto your car dashboard.
4. A cigar lighter charger.

the FM transmitter allows the output from your N95 to be played over your car stereo. Or any FM radio for that matter. The belkin unit gives a great sound.

So... secure your N95 and the transmitter in the car. By whatever means you deem necessary. I use a cradle for the phone and the transmitter. Plug the transmitter into the remote control, and plug the control into the phone and tell the phone that you are connecting headphones (I have had problems if you tell it that you are connecting a music stand).

Secure the remote control, preferably about mouth height and with the little hole on the front facing toward you. I secure this with Blu-tack.

Then when someone calls, the sound comes through the car stereo and you can be picked up by the remote. I would recommend that you charge the phone while playing music (due to the outstanding battery life of the N95).

Oh, and you get voice navigation through your stereo this way too!

all this cost was about 30 quid. Well worth it! All easily dismantalable (is that a word?)

Mr Aguilera...

Yeah well obviously I mean the brown sticky liquid, not the white powdery stuff...

And with an 8 Gig card, thats a serious amount of choice of music in a car!

I gave up at the Tunecast II. It was OK in the house, but I found lots of interference when I was driving about. While the Tunecast II did allow you to manually choose frequency, unlike Tunecast I, I still struggled to get a clear reception.

Now I use Bluetooth. :D

While your DIY kit has to be respected, for a mere £79, you can pick up a Sony MEX2500 bluetooth car stereo that supports Stereo streaming and handles calls too. (& MP3 CD's and a Radio...!)

I currently use an iPod in the work van, via a tape adapter.

I shall definitely be employing (whilst adapting, ever so slightly) this method, when my N95 8GB arrives tomorrow.

Just expressing my gratitude for the suggestion, thanks :)

My head unit has a 3.5mm input jack on the front so i just use a 3.5mm plug/cable plugged into my phone and in the front of the dvd player, not as elaborate and well thought out as MrAguilera's but it does the job for me.
