You should have searched the forum first...
Camera shutter sound goes off only in silent mode..for N95-1 and only works on the latest firmware of N95-2(8gb).

The turning off warning tones trick only works on some product codes.
Normally APAC codes, and I think NA codes force the camera to make the shutter noise whether the warning tones are set to on or off.

Correct, that is due to federal laws in US.

'*Sellotape' is just a European brand (The most popular) of clear sticky tape
In this guide, it is used as a form of electrical insolation. This seems like a good idea for a non-permanent option

It's amazing how quickly topics jump from one forum to another
(You can probably tell who wrote the DIY stuff from the water mark)
You guys are correct that the shutter sound method have different results for different N95 sold in different countries.
And yes, cellotape is just sticky tape used for electrical insulation. And as Gizmoratty rightly said, it's a non-permanent mod that won't destroy your phone
Hope you guys enjoy!

It depends on your model, for N95-1 with APAC firmware the shutter sound was still present... You have to flash to EURO firmware to make it work...

As no software hack for this was forthcoming I just carried out this surgery on my N95.
As much as it was successful, and a relief to have done, I feel I ought to advise caution. I did this with a surgical scalpel with a brand new blade and looked through a 10x loupe - I have very steady hands but it was still a tricky procedure. Until I actually put the phone back together and tried the video camera out, I wasn't certain that I had cut all the way through the contact.
Anyway, I appreciate the nerve of the pioneer who first did this!
