Angry Nokia said it was liquid damage.

I recently started to experince problems with my N95. The phone shuts off randomly on its own. I'll be talking on it and it will basically just power down the screen will go black and the phone shuts off. I didn't start experincing these problems until I was driving in my car and the phoe slid across my seat and hit my passenger side door.

I sent the phone to Nokia USA and they sent it back with new firm ware on it I believe it was the N-gage software. It wasn't the orginal N95 software that was installed on the phone. I thought that they had fixed the problem unfortunatley they didn't so I called and they sent me a prepaid stamp so I could return it free of charge. I checked the status of my phone today and it is on it's way back to me unrepaired. I called nokia and they told me my phone wasn't operating correctly because it had liquid damage which was determined by corrosion in side the computer.

I"VE NEVER GOT MY PHONE WET. The most liquid that the phone may have come in contact with is Perspiration from my Face and perhaps from my leg when it's in my pocket. (I'm in the Army so I might have been working hard and the phone might have got some sweat on it that way)
I'm pretty upset because the phone isn't cheap and Nokia is basically telling me that the phone is irrepairable. I find it hard to believe that the phone could be affected by perspiration to the point where it would affect the inside circuitry.
Has any one experinced similar problems? Is there a possible fix or do I just have to chalk my phone up to a loss?

ever take your phone in the kitchen ,or the bathroom (especially when running water) ,taken it out just after a rainfall ?
All of these and more can also contribute to liquid damage !
You do not need to get the phone wet to suffer liquid damage effects

Just leave it in bits (battery out, battery cover off) in a warm dry place for 24 hours and then boot it up and see if it's any better.

It's had about a week to dry. the phone has never been submerged in any liquid. Nokia is saying that its irrepairable. If a service tech checked it out and determined it was irrepairable then what is letting it dry some more do? I'm upset because of the cost and weakness of this phone. To be damaged by perspiration possibly? Thats horrible I see that Gaz Service level 2 is a tech I'm just trying to get some expert advice on it. Wether I need to just abandon hopes to deep6 the phone or should I try and do some work on it to get it up and running. Again since it's out of warranty and supposedly unrepairable why not tinker with it and see what I can possibly work out. Why can't I send private message and post anymore? Has m access been blocked?

Angry GAZ Service Level 2 this ones for you...

What do you suggest? Count my expensive phone a total loss are is there any possible way that I could repair it myself due to the fact that it's out of warranty?
I'm just very upset because I've had the phone for about 7 months and now it's useless. One would think such an expensive phone would be able to withstand slight enviromental obstacle like perspiration.
I'm just looking for some sliver or hope here if any can be offered.

I've dropped my phone in bath water before, which i thought would make it a total goner, I'm guessing sweat is more acidic or alkaline than water which should be pH neutral, so I'm guessing that it's got in someway and speeded up the corrosion.

although i always have my phone in my pocket at the gym, and it's screen is normally saturated by the time I'm finished, and I've never had this problem.

how long does the phone stay on out of curiosity? seems a bit strange that if it's corroded as nokia says, that it would only turn off after a short duration of time. or is it a certain movement what triggers it to turn it's self off, (have you tried shaking it etc...) to see if it turns it's self off.

only a few things for you to try to eliminate how frequently, and what causes it to turn off.

Hi gijon,

Just a thought, but are Nokia saying that the phone is irrepairable, or that they will not complete a repair under warranty, due to evident liquid damage?

If it is the latter, then maybe you can get a repair, albeit chargeable.

In the UK, we have "Nokia Care Points" that are often repairers for more than one manufacturer's handsets, and they will complete non-warranty repairs - you just need to pay.

It is unlikely that the phone is totalled if you haven't given it a dunking or dousing, so this may be an option. It is common for service centers to search for liquid ingress, if there is any sign of that, bang goes the warranty.

Good luck!
