N95 keypad problem
I've got an odd problem with my phone. It's an N95-1. It played the text message alert tone earlier. I picked it up thinking I had got a text message (I hadn't...i've put my sim in another phone and there are no messages on it) .
Right after that the phone went crazy, and started opening loads of applications. I tried closing everything by pressing the end key, but it didn't work. I then took the battery out, and put it back in. When I turned the phone on, it asked for my pin, which I started trying to put in.
However, it's acting as though the clear key is stuck down. I can type about one character of my pin, and it's immediately cleared. If I just leave the phone at the pin prompt (or unlock prompt if I remove the sim card), I can hear it beeping every few seconds as if a key is being pressed, so either the clear key is stuck down (it can still be pressed though so it doesn't appear to be), or something has messed up in the firmware or mainboard that's causing it to think it is.
I've tried holding down the key combination to reformat the phone, and this seems to have partially worked (The theme has gone back to the default, but it still asks for the lock code when no sim is inserted). However, it's still beeping every few seconds, and clearing any input.
I've phoned carphone warehouse customer services, and they said it's still under guarantee and to take it into a carphone warehouse store to get it sent off for repair.
I'm going to take it in tommorow, but before I do that, does anyone possibly have any idea's on how to get it working again myself. I'm not going to reflash it, as I risk voiding the warranty then, and i'm not sure if my laptop will even detect it until it's fully booted, and obviously taking it apart would void the warranty so I don't really want to do that either.
I've got an old phone that I can use for now, so it's not a major problem, but it's just a pain to have to do this.
Any idea's on how to get it working without voiding the warranty would be appreciated.

From your description, it certainly sounds like a stuck key, which is not software related, but hardware, and you would be right to get it exchanged. make sure they give you a brand new handset however, and not a refurbished handset.
Let us know how you get on.
Welcome to the forums BTW

Thanks for the quick reply. As far as i'm aware, they would send it off to be repaired, but i'll ask tommorow when I take it down whether they're able to just replace it with a new one if they've got any in stock.

I'm now beginning to think it's either software related, or it's a loose solder joint on the mainboard.
I've noticed if I leave it off for a while, I can get past entering my lock code, and it works for a while, but then starts opening apps again.
Another thing i've noticed, is that when it starts opening apps, it now always opens the music player, and if my memory card is inserted at the time, it always starts playing the same track.
I'm going to take it down tommorow morning and sort out getting it repaired or preferably, replaced.

or liquid ingress which more than likely nokia will use to get out of repairing it under warranty, thats if it still is under warranty (not that nokia's warranty is any good) of course.

I know it's not that, so if they try and claim that it is, i'll be kicking up a fuss. The only time it's ever got a bit wet would be splashes from the rain, but you'd expect any phone to be able to withstand that, or it would be basically useless as a mobile phone.
From what you posted about the warranty i'd asume you've had some bad experiences with nokia in the past. I'm just curious though, if that's the case, why do you still have an N95 (as your profile shows).
I've had bad experiences with 3, and so would not go anywhere near them now, and i'm guessing most poeple would do the same with other companies.

I went down to carphone warehouse earlier and told them what the problem was. They said it could be sent away by them which could take between 10-14 days or that I could take it to a Nokia repair place that was nearby, and they may be able to get it fixed within a day.
I opted to take it to the repair place. When I told the person in there what the problem was they said that it's a very common problem with the N95 (they didn't even ask to see my reciept so it it must be a common problem), and that the front keypad on the slider needed replacing. They're going to send it away to be repaired tommorow, and I should have it back within 7 to 10 days apparantly.

It turns out the 7-10 days I was quoted, was actually 7-10 working days, so really I haven't ended up any better off than I would have if i'd just let carphone warehouse get it done. 7 working days will be today, but I haven't heard anything from them yet.
I'm hoping I'll hear from them tommorow.
