Phone reboots trying to use GPS?

I had the feeling I saw a post about this issue on here but can't use 'gps' as a search term (too short).

Anyway, just this evening my GPS started playing up. I was out somewhere and thought I'd just look on google maps and the phone restarted. I then tried Nokia maps, same again. Then tried just Tools -> GPS Positioning (in case it was GPRS causing the reboot) and it did it again...

Tried taking battery out for a bit...still doing it...

Any ideas on what I can do? I think I'll try a soft reset next unless anyone has had this before...???

Maybe you could re-install the firmware or check to see if theres an update available.

That might iron out the problems your having.

problem I'd have there is that my carrier only allows me to upgrade to v12. I'm not sure if there would be that much benefit going to v12? I've read that its way of dealing with the memory issues is to just close running apps? Much the same as handy taskman does. I worry about going to v20 due to possibly invalidating the warranty (11 months left)

The gps has been perfect up till today though...

If I take the sim card out and go to GPS data it finds satellites etc but says 'Waiting for GPS' and never gets a fix...
Put the sim card back in, says searcing for satellites then reboots...

T-Mobile is currently on V.14 for the N95-1, however many people are unhappy with it, and it seems to block any attempts at debranding so you cannot get the latest V.21. Please search for "V.14 to V.21", I got tired of posting the same link over and over again.

V.12 is a major improvement on V.11, so if you manage to upgrade to it without being forced direct to V.14 I would strongly recommend it.

I had your problem with my N95-1 when I was using A-GPS and had selected a non-working access point, but there is no A-GPS available on V.11, so it cannot be that although it sounds similar if you are managing to get satellites with the SIM card out.

Without A-GPS it can take up to 20 or more minutes to get a lock on your position, try again without SIM.

I tried also without the memory card (stores the nokia maps cache and also Tomtom) and it worked fine...
I'm guessing something has gone funny with the memory card apps...?

Thing is would the GPS data utility in tools use the memory card for any reason? I don't understand why that would be playing up?

Surely your maps are on the memory card, maybe that's why the GPS utility would try to access it.

I thought the GPS utility just displayed the co-ordinate information (raw data from the GPS receiver) and wouldn't need the map data?

Something funny on the memory card it seems. I formatted it again and put some stuff back on it and it was fine...
