Question broken flex or broken slide unit?

I'm a new member to the forum and a new n95 owner. Always wanting an n95 but owning a n82 instead I was happy when a my friend gave me his old n95-1 (he just got a n95 8gb). The problem was that the lcd screen did not work, everything else did.

So it turns the phone had some water damage. The lcd screen needed replacing so I did as such. the phone worked fine but only recently the lcd has started acting up again. The screen goes blank and it gets lines and even goes to a negative film colors. Sometimes after tapping the phone slightly above the keys it corrects itself only for the problem to persist a few seconds later.

After reading through some of the forums I have come to the conclusion that it is either the flex ribbon or the slider unit but have no idea how to determine which. I am both willing and eager to replace either part myself but i would like to know if there is way to tell which (flex ribbon or slider unit) is the problem. Also if possible how to replace the faulty part.

Welcome to the forums.!

Do you know the extent of the water damage? Was it actual water, if so, salt water, or fresh water, or was it alcohol, or something else liquid.?

Its possible that the phone may have corrosion within its circuits, which will be very difficult to rectify.

if the colors are going crazy it'll be the flex cable or as micky said one of the circuits driving the lcd screen. Your best bet would be to get a new screen and when you take it apart check the ribbon cable connector for any corrosion. You can get electronics cleaner and a Q-tip to help clean out any signs of junk or corrosion and this may help

Ive been that the water damage came from a spilled water bottle. As for the ribbon, well the ribbon from the lcd screen to the phone itself seems fine. I may just me being confused, but if the flex ribbon is the the one coming off the lcd then, what exactly is the black that goes from the slider to the main circuit or mother board? Thanks, i will try the q-tip suggestion, perhaps that will help some.

Just decided to post an update on my situation. Well the lcd screen is fine, it worked on my friends phone perfectly. imo the only probable problem is most like like the flex ribbon so I just bought a new slide unit include ribbon and front fascia from ebay. hopefully this works.

Welcome to the forums connor. You can buy replacement ribbon connectors on eBay for around £15. They are easy enough to replace providing your confident enough.
