My god...

Hi, my name is Mitchell Fox, and I just got the Nokia N95 yesterday! So it's my first cellphone and i was really excited to use it, but being me..there are already problems! So I found this great site, and hopefully you guys can help me! I'm on the Rogers Vision Plan, but I didn't order the data plan, so i'm really not allowed to use the internet at all.

1. Does the GPS require my data plan? Because I think I set it to like "never" use a network. So when I try and go outside and connect to the satellites, it never actually connects and finds my locations, and I don't know what's wrong! So that's my first problem :)

2. So..the WLAN option. Does it like "go through" my data plan, even if I connect to my own internet wireless connection at home?

3. The radio as well, does it require the data plan as well to recieve radio?

4. And so this last one is my biggest problem! The music player!!! So when I try and open it on the phone, the "opening application" bar never goes away, and the program never fully opens! So yeah, I can't actually get into the program. I already reinstalled the software via the nokia software updater, and that didn't help. So that's my fourth and last problem :)

1.Only if you use A-GPS to get a lock on.
2.WLAN doesn't cost you anything
3.No it doesn't
4.Strange why this happens even after re-installing the software, i'm stumped.

1. How do I know if I'm even using AGPS? Plus there's the problem of it not even locating me.
2. So when I'm connected to WLAN, what exactly can I do with the phone?
3. But when I try to use the radio, it always asks me if I have permission to connect to the network..
4. And this one lol, anyone else?

1 ..To turn A-GPS off, go Setting->General->Positioning->Positioning methods Make sure to only use Integrated GPS, it will be a little slower getting a lock, but its all free!

The first time i tried to get a lock it took almost 10min, some people take longer, so put it by a window, and just wait!

2.. When using WLAN, you can surf the net, stream Youtube, anything pretty much that you can do if you had a data plan.

1. Tools > Settings > General > Positioning > Positioning Methods > Assisted GPS. Also note you'll unlikely get a sat lock indoors.
1a. Remember to download the maps to your phone using the Nokia Map Loader before using Nokia Maps. Otherwise it'll try connecting to WAP and attempt to download the map data on the fly, which consequently leads to big bills!
1b. Its wise to disable network access totally through the Nokia Maps settings.
2. As much as you like! If you're connected by WLAN then you won't be charged by your network. Things you can do include surfing the internet for example, checking e-mails, VOIP etc.
3. Initially I think it asks to connect, to see if it can download the list of visual radio stations or something. Once done, I don't think you are asked again. Additionally, I don't think its a requirement to download the list of visual radio stations.
4. Are you sure you're not being impatient, and the bar is actually the bar that appears when its adding music to your library. Because this can take considerable time. Other then that, I'm not sure why this would be happening.

Well the WLAN lets you browse the net via a WiFi connection and not data from your network.

Not too sure why your radios doing that as i don't get that message when starting mine.

Okay so I fixed the radio, and I guess i'll wait longer next time for the GPS to locate me. But like the first few times I tried to go into the music player, it worked fine. Now, i've waited like 15 minutes for it to open..and it still doesn't!

Will it be your first time in trying to get a lock as the first time does take a while?

As i said it does take quite a while, it did for me anyway, best to be outside too with the keypad open.
