help please - couple of probs after reinstalling firmware...

Hi all,

After a few issues I decided to use the Nokia updater software to reinstall 11.0.026 on my phone (said it was latest version).

I took my 2GB memory card out while I did it to be sure it won't affect anything on there and also used the backup program on my PC for all my details.

Problem 1:
After inserting the memory card it said 'installing' for a long time...
That eventually cleared but has done it again after restarting the phone. I have quite a few apps on the memory card which are showing again no problem. How can I fix this? Ideally I don't want to wipe the memory card...

Problem 2: Trying to restore from the backup file, it sends the Page File usage rocketing on my PC (XP SP1 with 512MB RAM). I've set the page file to over 2GB and it reaches that then gives an error message...
It's stuck on calendar and notes and messages...
Tried them both individually, still the same...

Any help appreciated...

Firstly reinstalling the firmware won't help like that, you're better off doing a *#7370#, or at boot, doing holding the power button, the 3 key, and the *, to restore factory defaults.

Secondly, v12.0.0.13 is the latest version, there are guides around here about how to update is NSU says v11 is the latest, have a read of them and see if you want to go down that route...

The general consensus is that things work much better if you don't restore things from back are doing a full wipe, it's better to manually reinstall.

By the way, that problems were you having that made you do this in the first place?

Listen to Salada 2k... The wise one speaks!

Definitely safer, after an upgrade, to rebuild the phone almost from scratch.. I restored ONLY the phonebook. This also means formatting your memory card, as advised by Nokia... It's a pain but can save a LOT of hassle in the long run!

Cheers guys.
I thought reinstalling the firmware would have helped resolve memory full errors I kept getting and I also bodged my QuickOffice by trying to upgrade using the upgrade file on the Quickoffice website...

I fancy going for the later version. I shall have a look at the guide - cheers for the tip.

I would really like to get my messages back though. All my other bits like contacts/notes/calendar I restored from Outlook sync'ing...

I want to try and find a way of getting my texts back on to my phone as well as sent e-mails in case I need any.

Any ideas if I could get these from that backup file by any means?

Also, sorry one other thing. Is there a way I could save app info from my memory card if I reformatted it? Things like previous destinations etc.?

A mem card format will wipe the lot!
When you start to use it again it will rebuild your file allocation table on the card. Try to install all apps to phone memory as this will keep your phone speeddy and avoid software clashes, freezes etc!
If you have your own ringtones make sure they are filed on your phone and then you won't loose them if you have to re-format the card again.
