unable to activate data transfer mode

When i plug in the usb to a computer it says its unable to activate data transfer mode because the mass storage is in usage or something.

It continues to say this even when i check that all applications etc are closed.

I think it started doing it after i downloaded some applications and installed them onto the mass storage, could that affect it?

I have the eight gig n95

Have you installed a custom font? Have you saved your SMS messaages to the memory card? Have you got an older version of RotateMe installed?

Any of these may be the problem

if you have taskman, you have to exit it also with the rest of the apps that might be causing it.

I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to copy a video file, (movie as .mov file) and the message is the same, unable to transfer data because the mass data transfer is in use. No apps open that I can see and I haven't put any fonts or apps into the phone. Er bit stuck so I'll keep digging but any ideas would be welcome.

Make 100% sure you turn any app. that autostarts off, close (or better still kill) all applications. If the theme you are using is in the memory card swith back to the default one. Turn phone off and re boot. I had this trouble not so long ago it's usually a hidden application like flipsilent or N starter. Incidentally, if your card has ever been password protected, even if now its not, getting your PC to read it via a card reader is next to impossible for some reason. In fact it takes windows ages to 'stop' it so you can safely remove it without corrupting it.

It happens often to me. Usually I have to restart the phone and if it doesn't help, simpy unplug and plug in again the memory card while the phone is switched on. Then data transfer mode works again.

ckgni if you have to remove the memory card and put it back in first then you have something running in the background from the memory card and removing it will close the app or whatever it is you have running thus allowing you to enter data transfer mode.

I always just use PC Suite mode and open it through explorer in windows. Should be a Nokia Phone Browser icon in My Computer but not sure if data transfer mode is quicker (anyone?)

the only time i use data transfer mode is when i update the maps. pc suite and data transfer mode has the same speed so i might as well just use pc suite to save me the hassle of closing apps.

hey, change whatever font you want on n95 8gb,without mess with transfer mode

1-connect your phone to pc via transfer mode
2-open my computer-n95 8g-resource-fonts
3-and just drag the font you want over there, notice that must be 4 FILES (ttf.)
4-then unplugg phone from pc
5-connect again via PC suite and install FontRouter in MASS STORAGE
6-disconnect,restart phone and bingo, you got new font

now,to still use transfer mode on n95 8gb you need to uninstall fontrouter, not just disable the values on ini file, need to uninstall.
and to change font any time for default, uninstall in same way
to change to other font you like or want to try, uninstall font router and follow the 6 steps
