Anyone own E90 or similar phones?
Hey all,
I'm looking to buy my mother a new phone. She travels a lot for business (half and half domestic and international), and she usually just carries her Mac Powerbook with her, pretty much just for email and taking files with her. She's not extremely tech-savvy, but I think she can handle a new phone if I set it up for her that will replace the computer for these purposes. Basically, she needs basic phone functions and the ability to check email and take MS powerpoint and word files with her and transfer these to a computer when needed.
My initial thought was the iPhone, but there's no way she'll ever get used to the touch screen, so that's out of the question. I also considered the soon-to-be-released SonyEricsson X1, but that also sports a touchscreen, so no go. So I'm pretty much down to the Nokia E90 (I am a Nokia loyalist so this is my choice), or a Blackberry, or something else???
Requirements would be that it has a full QWERTY keyboard in some form, probably quadband so she doesnt have any network problems, and the above requirements for email accesibility. Cameras and other gadgets hold no priority whatsoever, and neither does size. What are your recommendations????? Anybody have an E90 that can tell me about it???
Thanks!

E90 is like having a n95 but with qwerty. it's nice for browsing due to its large screen but i doubt she'll be using that. i can suggest an e61i or htc touch dual for wm.

In my opinion, i would suggest the htc tilt. You can get them unlocked for around $550. They offer windows mobile, which isn't too hard to get used to. Plus it's good for email, It has a full qwerty, and a touch screen(even though she might not use it). I know it's a quad band, and i'm almost positive it offers 3g on both u.s. and european bands. Plus it's not very big, just a tiny bit larger than the n95.

if she's been using a laptop, she could get used to the E90. maybe bring her down to any nokia store and try the phones on display. for most phones, even if the keyboard is qwerty, its small and you'd have to type with your thumbs. it'd be difficult initially.
do check which protocols her email is using, whether the E90 supports it. checking emails on the large screen would be nice, really.
as for word processing, it shouldn't be a problem. if not mistaken the E90 comes with an office suite that can edit documents. if not, there's always 3rd party apps to the rescue.
i was close to buying it, if not for the price :D

as mentioned before, consider the e61i, or perhaps HTC, blackberry's a great option, and the new one is quite nice. get your mum to check out the whole e-series, as hairi said, take her down to the nokia store and get her to try out all of them
