Exclamation N95 went AWOL.

Hi, recently I tried to upgrade the software on my N95, went through all the motions, fully charged battery, backup data etc, only for the download to stop at about 90%.
That was it, phone bricked, so, a long story cut short, it had to go to carphonewarehouse, who couldn't fix it, then on to Nokia.

When I got back to base I checked the software version, & to my amazement Nokia has uploaded V11.0.026, this version came out on the 17/04/07, five months ago.

I haven't being back in touch with them yet, has anyone got an opinion on this, or had a similar experience concerning the same?

Also, is it true if you take your phone to the likes of carphonewarehouse, they will upgrade the software for free?

Cheers,

Korky.

Any repair centre will upgrade the firmware. BUT, you'll only get the approved network version unless it's SIM free version.

This may mean you'll get v11, rather than v12.

Thanks for a quick reply GM. I've being reading a similar post, if fact near enough identical.......Firmware update bricking problem

I was with out my phone for nearly three weeks, this is putting me off trying to update the firmware to V12 now.

I'm surprised that Nokia didn't update to V12, since it had to be fixed by them anyway.

CHeers,

Korky.

Is your handset branded? (ie Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone)

If yes, then that's why.

Yep, it's on Orange, have you any idea when the update will be for V12 then?

Cheers,

Korky.

Korky, do you have issues with the phone? If not, stick with your FW version. I would imagine most people only Update FW to resolve issues (?) This was certainly the case for me, anyway. It was in the box ready to be returned to O2 due to many, many issues when out of desperation, I took it to V12.

I mean, If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

Hi GG, up till now I've only had one issue, & that was with Bluetooth, basically it wouldn't send at all, just came up as "sending failed".

Found what the problem was in this thread;
Weird N95 Bugs! « The Symbian Blog

Absolutely astounded that, that was the cause of the problem.

GM has explained the rest of the issues, I'll just hang in now,

CHeers,

Korky.

I've got to be honest Korky. It was mainly Bluetooth hell that drove me to v12. Since v12, it's great.

Nice find on the Bugs blog, that's just crazy! Glad you've sorted it out.
