No, they beefed it up. The unit issued originally was perfectly functional, the new unit is just better.
Go back and look at Nokia's marketing history before you come out with nonsense like this.

Talking of marketing... and of talking nonesense...
The flagship N95 was marketed as "It's not one thing, it's many" and as a multimedia 'mini computer'...
Tell me the point of carrying one thing that fulfils a multitude of purposes if you only have enough power to use just a few of them...
Nokia REPAIRED this fault by increasing the battery capacity and probably fine-tuning the power-saving circuitry.
Many users complained that in this 'mini-computer', this multi-media marvel that they'd bought, their apps kept closing unexpectedly or reporting 'out of memory' errors.
Nokia REPAIRED this fault by increasing the amount of RAM
They then re-issued virtually the same handset with a slightly larger screen and internal 8GB of RAM, doing away with the expansion capability and the camera-protection in the process... It's The Same **** Phone!
Try and get your head around these facts and if you can't or won't, then we'll have to agree to differ... WITHOUT you needing to sling any more petty insults!

I don't really see the point...... you buy and sign on for new tech knowing full well it will be obsolete within the year...
Take me for example, i love the N95, but now i want a HTC Shift........... it's the way of the world. If there's something newer and better, you want to progress.

I'm with stupid... They may be limitations of the device but they're certainly not faults...
I do wish I'd waited for the N95 8GB (not out in Australia yet though) but it's certainly not worth crying over...

Ok.. since most of us have signed it lets just hope it'll sink into Nokia's consience. I beleive if we start posting this everywhere it should get Nokia's attention soon. After all, they did listen to us the first time and release new versions of the N95, right?
So please, post this on other forums as well like Nokiausers.net etc.

Done
I did it and tottally agree with trial phone ;) I don't have any big problems as phone works great only problems RAM and Battery.
Yes it works fine if you use 1 or 2 things at a time but having to worry all the time about when you might run out of ram or when everything reboots or more power is needed. I hate having to carry around my charger.
what if you needed to take a photo and missed it because memory full!! damm that. or a really important phone call but then it reboots.
and also when editing videos on it and you take all the time setting it up and then trying to save it. MEMORY FULL!!!!
come on nokia we need phones that can handle what you say it can!!
hope more sign and its taken notice of this because its NOT a cheap phone in NZ it Retails $1599 NZ
Cheers

Yeah I've signed this as well. I think whether or not anything comes of it, Nokia should know how much they dissed everyone who owns a N95-1.
We shouldn't just 'roll over' to that kind of treatment, I hope you all agree.... We all paid a premium and we got sub-standard specs. It doesn't add up. I still love Nokia, don't get me wrong, but it's hard not to be very sour when you see the N95-3 and the specs, and also the price. Everyone who owns a N95-1 honestly deserves the opportunity to trade-up, for free, or a very cheap price, after sending back your original unit.
That said, maybe I'm dreaming out aloud, but if Mr Jobs can give his users a $100 rebate on the WhyPhone, then surely we deserve something, anything, from Nokia that says 'We understand, and to show you how much we apperciate your ongoing loyalty and support we would like to < insert your dream-phrase here>'
