i agree wid u my friend mcbain....but the thing is steve jobs is selling a revolution...a new idea...he knows his product lacks capability in terms of generic features...but he also knows tht he can sell an ultra slim ultra portable notebook which has multitouch capabilities.........it is just the way he did with iphone.......personally i think mac's are overpriced shiny toys for the esthetically correct...

Only 1 USB port? Come on, seriously?

If it was thin and light maybe they could justify the cost, but it's thin, and just as heavy as any other comparable laptop.

Also, 5 hours battery is nothing to write home about, the Lenovo X61s gets over 6.5 hours just on medium settings, let alone in power saving mode.

It does look the dogs ding-dangs though!

Yes thats not bad to sale 4million iphones in 200days but with the big hype and PR it was not like the stockmarket had expect ( minimum 5million)
at the same time Nokia sold over 250 million devies (more then 1million per day)

Its looks lovely, but isnt that exactly what Apple does?

Looks and style above functionality.

So no optical drive, no ethernet port, and just one USB port? I see hubs having to be carried around.

But guess what? The battery is not removable. I thought that was bad enough in a phone, but a laptop? Flaming hell.

Dispite all that, Ive no doubt it will sell. In the general sense, people prefer showing off rather than having functions. And thats why apples products sell so well.

Others are generally not so shallow.

Another overpriced product not worth the price. Yet people will see the Apple name and buy it because its Apple and there under the illusion that Apple products are the mutts nuts.

I wonder if its that thin what would happen if you dropped the thing surely it would crack or break? I guess the 1 port isnt that bad you could just use a external 500gb usb drive or stick a hub in there but that would defeat the object a little..

IMO its totally pointless.

First off, you have to have a bag/case for it.

Secondly, unless you really are planning to use it as a net tablet only for 5 hours or under, you need to take power cord, optical drive, or anything else you might need.

And instantly, the fact its so thin is made pointless by carrying it in a bag. Unless of course, they do ultra thin bags too!

I think the eepc is more useful than the Air, as its small, the Air is just thin yet still has a substantial width.

I bet anyone that it does not provide any benefits over a Mac or other PC of the same power. Except of course, for your image.

Here's some cold, hard facts on some of the flaws of the MBA:

While it is incredibly thin, and pretty light, it actually has a slightly larger footprint than the 13.3inch Macbook, and Macbook Pro.

The battery, as stated before, is sealed, and you have to send it away to apple to get a replace.

Similarly, Maximum RAM is 2GB, because it's intergrated into the processor (similar to our phones)

Only one USB port, which means that if you, say, want to use ethernet and a disc drive at the same time, you're pretty much screwed.

Mono Speaker, seriously, what is this, 1985?

It uses an 80gig PATA drive, at 4300 RPM. The same ones in the iPod Classics. And we all know how well they work, am'right?

And now I'm too angry to be coherent, so I'm going to stop aggravating myself.
