Yes but he clearly stated it is the admin password he has forgotten..... Maybe try reading his post? In any case, it also presumes his current account is a standard user and therefore resetting the admin password from within windows will not be possible..... Provided that his account isn't an administrator.

You configure your primary admin account, and write the password down and store it somewhere safe, like write it on a label on the battery, unless your Gary Glitter you've no reason to keep the admin password "that" safe.
My profession is in IT, and it gets ma goat when folk make silly mistakes.... read the manual for gods sake, it doesn't take long. ;)
Arrrrgggggghhhhhh.............. and breath.... its ok folks, i'm ok now! lol

Maybe you could provide a reference page in the 'Windows Manual' where it teaches you about security practices only actually employed by IT professionals themselves? You're the kind of IT support person that gets on my goat. And i would hardly call it a 'silly mistake'. Considering 98% of the world do it. Then again, I guess you're better than everyone else? I've been in IT for 10 years and I'm still yet to meet a user that actually runs with user-level privileges. Stupid, hey? They should know better!

Not quite as clear cut as that I'm afraid. Judging by how the original post is worded, I presume that it is a user account with admin priviledges that the password has been forgotten to.
This does not in anyway affect the password to the main admisitrator account, which is what I presume sonysandy is referring to.
Lot's of presumptions here though, so we know what they lead to.

M'eh! End users! ;)
Like i say, best thing you can ever do... write the password down! ;) Best place to "hide" it, back of battery! Its secret enough for everyday use.

Maybe you're right? Maybe I thought SonySandy was being rude. Maybe I was wrong. In any case, for all those reading that have forgotten a password on Vista here is what I think is the quickest way to fix it, assuming your current account is the admin anyway, as is the case here.
Click start. Type cmd, then press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER. Click Allow. (If you have UAP enabled - which most people would.)
In the command prompt, type net password <enter new password here without brackets> Press ENTER.
Job done.

I may have been too sarcastic for your palette. Its a simple mistake, but an easy mistake to avoid in future.
To summarise the advice on here...
1. Change the password as most people on here have suggested a means.
2. Write password down on a label and stick it to the back of the battery (so its hidden from view until you remote the battery, assuming you've got a laptop, or stick it to back of PC). As suggested by me.
You'll thank us all in future, when (and it will be when) it happens again. :D

Ah, why not mate? It's pretty polished these days.... It has turned 1! But then again, I have never used any OS as a primary until Service Pack 1. Which is now available to the public as a Release Candidate.
Windows Vista Service Pack 1
N.B. It is time limited.
