I've toyed about with Vista Ultimate, got it on one PC, but i keep coming back to XP, but then i think thats more down to the fact i primarily use my XP laptop more than my desktop.
Its quick swanky too... well Ultimate is, everything seems to work... and i've even tested it with 512mb and to be honest it works acceptably.

I've used it solely for over a year now. Never looked back. XP blows. Sure I had some problems initially, but nothing like other people seemed to be reporting. I did of course love XP, but I love eye candy, and Vista delivers big time. The interface is sooo much better. I'm very much a fan. Performance issues seem to have been ironed out with some critical patches released a few months ago, and now with Service Pack 1 just around the corner, Vista is ready for the big time, XP is just a hindrance to me now!

just an update, me and salada2k have been working on this, and we are getting there slowly. Sorry if i caused any use, but i see a group hug has worked.!

XP serves me excellently! It's still the most compatible platform for all the software I use and just keeps me happy. I may end up switching to Vista in the future, but currently the interface (Mainly aesthetics as it seems) is not enough for me
