Five New Phones Offer Internet Services, Multimedia, More
I just received this mail from Forum Nokia. The phones are already discussed on the forum, but I think that some people are interested to see the official press release.
Five New Phones Offer Internet Services, Multimedia, More
The Nokia N96 mobile device is a multimedia computer optimized for video and TV. It features a 2.8-inch screen, 16 gigabytes of internal memory (enough for 40 hours of video), and support for high-quality video in a wide range of formats, including MPEG-4, Windows Media Video, and Flash Video. Based on the S60 developer platform, the device also sports a 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics. Shipments are set to begin in the third quarter with a suggested retail price of 550 euros.
The Nokia N78 mobile device is a multimedia computer that combines music, navigation and photography. The device, based on the S60 3rd Edition developer platform, features integrated A-GPS navigation, 3.2-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, and support for a microSD memory card of up to 8 gigabytes to store music and media. The Nokia N78 device can also be used for "geotagging," the process of autotagging photos with location metadata. Shipments of the device are set to begin in the second quarter with a suggested retail price of 350 euros.
The Nokia 6220 classic mobile device combines a 5-megapixel camera with A-GPS functionality to let consumers snap, tag, edit, and share high-quality images and videos online, phone-to-phone, or on a television. The device is set to ship in the second quarter with a suggested retail price of 325 euros.
The Nokia 6210 Navigator mobile device is Nokia's first global proximity system (GPS) enabled mobile device with an integrated compass for pedestrian guidance. The device comes with the recently announced Nokia Maps 2.0 and includes full voice and visual turn-by-turn guidance at no extra cost. Shipments are set for the third quarter with an estimated retail price of 300 euros.
The Nokia 3120 classic mobile device lets consumers download and browse, take photos, listen to music, watch videos, and more. Based on the Series 40, 5th Edition, Feature Pack 1, the device features a 3.2-megapixel camera, support for microSD cards of up to 4 gigabytes, a video player, WAP 2.0 browser, Bluetooth stereo, and more.
After all this info, I think I will keep my N95!

So none of them have the 5 mp camera, the GPS (not agps), and expandable memory?...
Sorry, n95-1 still beats them all. None of them are worthy to upgrade to, though I do like the navigators maps with no subscriptions...

Well said hyuqvu, well said.... I currently have 6GB microSD and i find it hard to fill it up to the max, even with some unconverted episodes of "how i met your mother" and "heroes". BTW i have 620 songs in my phone WMA format at 90kbps. Wonder why everyone wants so much memory

I'll be getting the next navigator. Its thinner, has a better camera, has maps instead of route66 (which is definatly a plus point), and the inbuilt compass. Which, if it works properly will be absoloutly awesome for walking.
I'll be contacting viewranger, to see if they will be able to use this function. Quite possible if nokia supply the APIs like thye usually do.
They really, really missed a trick by not adding wifi.
Would have prefferred a 5mp cam too, but cant have everything.
Oh, and btw, terrabyte pirate, all nokia phones that have AGPS have GPS. You cant have AGPS without GPS.
And another edit...
Id really like some more details of the navigators map license.
Is it a full license? Or is it just for 3 years, or for 1? Or does it just go on forever?
Are the map updates free like the other licenses for nokia maps?
Is it based on the simcard, or (more likely) the phone?
Of course, the ideal situation would be that its an everlasting license, with free map updates, and transferrable by sim!

Sorry for double post, but I think it might be of interest to some. Heres the response I got from viewranger (quick eh?):
Quote:
Yes, we are excited about the compass too and intend to make use of it.
The compass data should be provided through the standard location API, with a small addition. Within the existing API they have defined some flags to support the compass, but haven't yet provided the structure to accompany that. I think it is highly likely that they will provide a minor update to enable it. The S60 3rd ed FP2 SDK is still only a beta, so they may even be able to add it there rather than providing something separate.
|
So for those of you whom have used viewranger, this would be an incredibly handy addtition as you can imagine.
ckgni, your post is wrong. The 3120 classic only has a 2mp camera, not 3.2
