Do 3 SIM cards work in SIM-free handsets?

I am prowling ebay (again) for a 6500 Classic (for a friend) and there is one offered as unlocked to all networks, but might not work on 3.

According to the seller, 3 lock their SIM cards so they work only in 3 handsets. He admits that it is hearsay and has not tested it himself, but has stated that in the item description just to be on the safe side.

I think it's nonsense, the seller seems OK and probably is just covering his backside (as I tend to do when selling). My worry was that the phone is blacklisted, but then it should not work on any UK network, so I don't think that's the case.

Anyone with a better informed opinion on 3 SIM cards ? Better still, can someone on 3 stick their card into an unlocked phone as a test ?

Ah if only you were here 2 months ago, you could have had a 6500 classic from me!!!!!!!
However it was sim free (technically speaking) and it did take a 3 sim.

Sexybacks selling a Nokia 6500 Classic

I was looking for one for me at the time as a spare, but then got myself a second N95-1. Meanwhile my mate changed his mind and wants an E51 instead.

3 sims will work in any "simfree/generic/unlocked" handset that supports UMTS networks

93tid - hold off for an E51 as the first batch have been inflicted with awful software errors which render the phone bloody useless.
The next batch should be fine so best to wait a month

Big thanks for the info, how can I tell which batch a phone is from ? Is this valid just for phones supplied to the UK ?

I have two friends with E51s in Europe and they are more than happy with their handsets which they've had for a couple of months now.

to be fair you should be ok by now but if you do experience any software issues (usually they will not let you into the menu) then get it checked out straight away !
