Personal numbering service-SCAM!

Hi guys,
I' ll try to be clear on this one

I've recently had to do a hard reset on my N95, lost everything including phone contacts, but i was expecting it .

Before I had the chance to restore them I got a call from a number starting with 0707... . As I had no contacts on the phone I thought this could be one of the people that I normally talk to, so I called back. At the other end I got a message saying something like "the person in question can't take your call right now, but we're sending a text message to let him know that you've called"

I got my phome bill last week and for this phone call I was charged 1 pound 44 cents. On the call description it says on the bill "Personall numbering service"

Can someone clarifies this for me. Was I a target of some cold calling scheme just to force me to call back to the number in question? Do I have reasons to file a complain on ofcom?

Many thanks

Send a message via MSN to spyda
I would say that's definitely a scam. I never bother to call numbers back that call me if I miss the call - I fugure that if it's important they will either leave a message or call back.

Might be worth checking with your network on this also ... maybe they can help in some way.

You can usually stick the whole number into google and quite often theres results saying its a scam.

070 number scam

Although, when I last checked into it, they were all supposed to have a new prefix by now.

[edit]

New numbers only it seems.

The good news is that from the end of 2007, there will be no more 070 numbers issued,
What network was this? vodafone have a recorded message informing you of the charge before you are put through (and charged).

I would be having a good old rant at them, then.

They may not have any obligation to warn you of the cost but the fact that vodafone (and I believe other carriers) do should give you some grounds for complaint.
