Multimedia Menu - Vodafone Tile

Dear all (and particularly dear Vodafone employees)

I've recently received one of these great phones through work. I choose it over a SE k850i after being a loyal se fan for years - I just hated the new control pad on the k850i.

Anyway, all's going swimmingly with the phone. The questions I have are:

I'm on Anytime 75 - I don't want to raise eyebrows at work by having massive bills - what does the contract cover in term of data, minutes and texts?

When I go online, it gives me a large choice of connections to use ie Contract WAP, Contract email, Contract Internet, PAYT Internet, PAYT WAP etc. The only one I've found that works is the Contract WAP option. What are all the others for and can I delete them?

Finally, and the real reason for posting, is that none of the links on the Vodafone tile in the multimedia menu work, apart from Vodafone Live and Call Mailbox. Is there any way of fixing this, or even removing the offending links?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Hi Mike,

First of all, great choice of phone (as I'm sure most here will agree!) and it's even better to see you have it with Vodafone.

The Anytime 75 price plan as standard includes 75 minutes. The basic plan doesn't include any data or texts, so I'd need to have a look at your account to check this. If the account's in your name I'll be able to look into it for you (just fill in the Contact Form and include the code FIT135 in your message), but if it's in the name of the company you work for you'd need to get the person at work responsible for the phones to find out.

As a general idea, if your account has texts included, you'll have either 100, 250, 500, 1000 or unlimited messages, as these are the increments Vodafone provides texts in.

With regards to data, we have a £7.50 per month data bundle which allows for 120MB of usage per month. If you don't have that bundle, you'll pay £1 for the first 0.5MB of data used in a day, and can then get another 14.5MB for free up until midnight that day, meaning you can browse with the confidence it's only going to cost you £1.

Both of these options cover everything except VoIP and Peer to Peer messaging, which are both charged at £2 per MB of data.

As for the connections pre-installed on your phone, to make use of all of the features of your handset you'll need all of the ones beginning with 'Contract'. You'd also need the 'PAYT' ones if you ever want to use a Pay As You Talk SIM in there instead. The Contract WAP option will enable you to access the world wide web and any built-for-mobile sites like Vodafone Live! and your picture messages will be sent using it too. The Contract Internet option will allow you to access the world wide web but not WAP sites as it's not secured in the same way as the WAP connection. Contract Internet will also be the one to use for third party applications on your phone such as Google Maps.

As for your last query, what kind of options do you have in the Vodafone menu that aren't working? We have an N95 in the office which I can compare this with, once its owner comes into work later on!

I hope this covers everything!

Thanks so much for your thorough reply. I think that's quite a good data plan Vodafone have. I'll ask work about the text bundles.

I'm not really that bothered about the tile problem, but it'd be nice to have it fixed. Basically the eBay, Google Maps and other applications I have on there just show a blank screen when selected, and after about 10 seconds the screen goes back to the tile. The applications work fine when selected from within the menu.

The only thing I can think of that might be causing it is that I may have moved the apps from the main menu to the applications folder (I can't remember where the were initially). I've moved them to the main menu to check but it makes no difference.

Anyhoo, as I say, not a big deal, but would be nice to have it fixed.

Thanks again,

Mike

Mike

hey Mike, the apps seem corrupted in some way...maybe something to do with the file path, etc, but I'm sure you can re-download the apps
