help, many questions, many simple answers!

hi, i'm currently using version 12.0.013. on the Vodafone Network.
and was wondering how many people had managed to up grade to v20 or even v21?

i now have the phone unlocked to any network. (is this the same as debranding?)
my product code is 0552001, is there anybody else who has managed to do anything other than the standard NSU with this Product code?

i'm looking, obviously, to upgrade my fw. i've been told also, that waiting would be the best bet. but unfortunately, my patience has depleted to that of non-existant.

is there any possibly way, somebody could tell me exactly which product code to use, and if i then manage to change it, would it just be a case of using my NSU as i would usually?

Thanks in advance, and i do apologise for the simple fact that these are all pretty lame questions..

Unlocking and debranding are different. Its unlocked and once you update the FW it will be debranded (won't have the voda brand FW)

Read the tips section, second page

First of all, connect your phone to the PC using PC Suite and simply click the 'Update phone Software' button. This will take you to get Nokia Software Updater and things are easy from there. Make a backup on PC Suite and then go through the Software updater until it takes you to where it shows you your current firmware version and the next available version.
If these are BOTH v12, you'll have to look at changing your product code.

My product code is 0552001 and had to bedrand before I could update - I was running V12 and NSU said that it was the most recent fireware available. I had come from a V20 debranded phone to this one and I must say it was the things I hadn't noticed on my old phone before I debranded and upgraded (missing key presses springs to mind) that wound me up the most!!! I had to get rid of V12!

Like jkoppee said, do the searches and get the info. Do the debrand/upgrade thing and be happy. And let us know how you get on!!

so all i will have to do is debrand? i won't need to change my product code?
if i do need to change my product code, how do i choose which one to use? just anything that looks nice? or is there reason behind it?
and also, if i change the PC, then upgrade my FW, would it then be best to change my PC back to original or?
and finally, i know i should only restore my contacts after all this? but can i also restore video's and photos?

You debrand by upgrading your software, which will be a different version (generic standard Nokia) from the Vodafone version you currently have.

Your product code is not allowing you to upgrade your firmware, because there isn't yet an upgraded version of the Vodafone software you already have.

By changing your product code, you will be able to upgrade your firmware and since this new firmware will be a generic Nokia version instead of a Vodafone branded one, you will have debranded.

Please read carefully N95 Tips before doing anything.

You can choose any EURO-1 product code depending on the colour of your phone. The main difference between codes is the language supported by them.

You can restore your original product code after upgrade in the same way you changed it before.

You can do a content restore with PC Suite, I would not expect you to have problems if restoring contacts, photos and videos. Restoring settings in this manner usually causes problems. You will also have to reinstall all additional applications (if any) which you had installed prior to the upgrade.

You might want to have a look here as well before you proceed - debrand warranty.
