Unhappy Vodafone 3G and mobile TV

Hi there,

new to the site and wondered if I could pick all you N95 loving brains!

I have recently acquired myself a N95 8GB and and thoroughly satisfied, but am having a little trouble with the 3G reception and in particular the mobile TV on the Vodafone live site, which I would love to be able to use if I could get it working. I have phoned Vodafone customer services a couple of times with no joy, all I was told was that I should try and wait a day to see if there was a delay in setting up my package.

I signed up for the service about 3 days ago now so I think any start up service issues can be ruled outI have the 3G indicator, which sometimes changes to 3.5G to indicate HSDPA ia available, so I'm pretty sure it's not the signal that's the problem. I am also able to use the normal internet through the web browser whilst getting 3G reception (although I can only connect to Vodafone Live! pages through the WAP connection, not the internet or any wireless network I happen to be in).

I go to the page that has the channel list and select my channel and it then takes me through and opens RealPlayer, and tries to connect. Invariably I wait about 10-20 seconds whilst the phone displays the message "connecting" only for it to say "unable to connect".

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Hmm ! Give them a few days yet. It's also a service you have to pay for per month as well. Connecting to Vodafone Live! can only be done through the Vodafone Live! access point. (WAP) thats alway been like that. Are you sure you want to pay £5 a month plus using your 120MB worth of 'unlimited' data package at £7.50 a month on watching TV ? Your 120MB won't last long and neither will your battery. The quality isn't that good either, I would rate it as just about watchable, no more.

On the Vodafone Mobile TV package you dont need to have the Web package to use Mobile Tv you can watch the TV regardless of whether u have the web addon or not.

Yes you can but it would be prudent to have the data package add on as you are still charged for data streaming when watching TV. The £5 subscription only pays for the subscription not the download of data to your phone as well.

Nope.. A mate at work got the Sky Sports & News package and was told by Vodafone regardless of having a internet package or not you dont get charged for the streaming as it included in the £5 monthly fee. He watches it all the time and has never had a huge data charge.

Hi all,

Firstly I want to clear up any confusion over charges for Vodafone mobile TV. Mobile TV works by streaming, not downloading, the information to your handset. Hence you are not charged for any data received, you only pay for the subscription you signed up for.

In response to the OP's problem:

Richy, are you still having trouble using the service?

If you are I would like to look into it further for you. If you would like me to do so please contact me following step 2 in this thread on the Vodafone eForum.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you get the most of your mobile with mobile TV.

Gembo

Only just caught up with this. Thanks gembo2609, and my apologies to dtm. I was told by Vodafone staff that I would incur data charges as well as a subscription charge when I first asked in a Vodafone store. I might have to resubscribe now.

Did you use your 3G connection? or Wifi. It needs to be 3G being used.

I think you cam only access mobile TV through WAP. Also open your real player and check your streaming/network connection settings for that. Set your default access point to WAP. That should allow you to stream mobile tv correctly.
