N95 8GB on latest firmware - any point in de-branding?

Hi,

As the title really... I've just got a N95 8GB Black which is on Vodafone and has the latest firmware already loaded - 15 something or other. What exactly is to be gained by de-branding?

I have had a look around and used the search facility, but it appears to me like the biggest advantage of de-branding was to be able to load the latest firmware and make it run a little better with less crashes.

Does de-branding release any other features, or would it be better to leave it as it is?

Thanks,

Steve.

You only do debranding if you cannot update to the latest fw release..atleast NSU wont allow you to. In your case, you dont need to debrand..you already have the V15 fw which is the latest, but V20 is coming soon..

The only point of debranding is change your product code for NSU to detect an update for your phone.

I find with my new N95 8gb that it does not crash or lock up like the N95 1gb.

N95 1gb? You mean N95-1?

Thanks for the replies.

I'll leave the phone branded to Vodafone then if there's nothing to be gained by de-branding at the present time.

...any idea what V20 will bring?

V15 is the latest available for your handset as you have the N95-2/N95 8GB there is no update as of yet but as per jeckthehell's post there will be sooner or later..

Going off past updates, how long after Nokia's V20 is released, will Vodafone's version of V20 be released? Is it usually within days, weeks or months?

No one knows for sure..but EURO product codes are the first one to have the update in the past(matter of days I guess??)...others they can just be painfully slow.

generally Voda are only a few weeks at most behind the update so it is worth waiting !
For the sake of a few weeks it is not worth throwing away a 25 month warranty .
If you cannot update and are getting crashes on the latest version available to your handset ,take it to the nearest NSC and they will repair or apply for a replacement if they cannot update it for you
