Vodafone insurance and de-branding

I'm thinking of upgrading my k800i to an N95 8GB on Vodafone as I'm at the end of my contract but am put off by the branding that they force upon you. Looking at guides to de-brand it seems straight forward, but I don't want to invalidate any warranty or end up bricked on the first day. It then occurred to me that if I had insurance (which they also force you to have for 3 months) would this not cover me for any problem regardless of cause or are the exclusions written in? I know accidental damage is supposed to be included - just a thought. Thanks a lot
