Freaking out about Rogers

Well one word. OUCH.

This morning, I opened my mail and got my Rogers bill. It's a nice total of 787.19$...

Why? I apparently used 13,011 kb during last month which is totally ridiculous.
I NEVER connect through data/3g or whatever. When I want to surf the net, I'm home and I use Wifi on my N95. I don't even think Rogers data plan is setted up on my N95 (if a setup is needed).

The only thing I have regarding 3g is in my network mode, it says "dual mode". But it's been like this for 7 months and this is the first time it happens.

Can anyone help me try to figure out what is connecting to the internet on my phone? What would be the quick things to look at?

I'm so angry :(

As far as setup goes, putting the Rogers sim card in enabled all of their wonderfully fast and ridiculously expensive 3G internet connections so you are probably set up correctly even if you didn't do anything.

First place to look is "Log" under applications, you can check your packet data usage in there. If it says 0 then Rogers f'ed up.

More likely though, some application grabbed a default setting or you accidentally selected one of their connections. 13 MB goes really fast so it could have been one web browsing session or 10 minutes of streaming audio. I've done this myself and it's a mistake that can cost $10 in the time it takes you to hit the close button.

In future watch the icon in the top left of the screen where it normally says '3G', if lines appear under it or it changes to "3.5G" then kill that app immediately as its sucking money from your account.

I havent use any data :( It's at 0.

The woman at Rogers told me there's nothing she can do about it because I don't have a Rogers supported phone (I have the 3G version).

I'm so pissed but unsure what to do :\

Well if your packet data log says you didn't use it, it sounds like it's an error on their part. You'll have to convince them you didn't use it. Maybe ask them to confirm the IMEI and useragent for the data in question?

If they are charging you for use, then they have to prove it. Ask for logs, and say that your phone (unsupported or not) does not say its transferred any data.

As far as your concerned, its a billing error and its not going to get paid until they prove it.
