Going Abroad - tariff precautions

I'll be going Stateside in September for a week, and as i've quite a good plan with O2 that includes zillions of texts and minutes and an unlimited data plan, over here in the UK, my bills are pretty much identical month on month...

Now, when I go abroad, the whole game is going to change, but so far, I've highlighted the GPS as a potential hazard, as i'll need to be wary of using Maps as it trickles data which I'll be charged for.

Any other expensive call or data hazards i need to be aware of for going abroad???

Make a list of apps that are installed on your phone, and check each individually.

Roaming data is eye wateringly expensive, so best to check.

Maps is fine, just use maploader and get the right ones. Probably worth turning AGPS off though.

The GPS isn't a hazard as long as you turn A-GPS of..

My advice is buy a roaming Sim card.

Example ( not the best )

International SIM Cards from GOSIM™ - cheap mobile calls from abroad

OR If your phone is unlocked, then just go grab a sim card from the country you are going to. Pretty simple, and cheap. Plus you don't need to bog yourself with the worry of overage charges and roaming and the usual price-gouging O2 pulls.
