O2 Firmware upgrade

If I want to upgrade my firmware, as I believe O2 are now V20 (I am V15) how do I back up my files, as I believe the upgrade will lose everything (photo's, texts etc)

Also, what about Applications - I just click and download them, have no idea where the exe type file is.

Install the nokia pc suite onto your pc that came with your n95 and you can back every thing up useing that, and that will also undate your firmware for you.
As a little side note the n95 only saves you contacts to the phone by default make acopy to you sim card just for safe keeping.
This can be done within your contacts by going to the options then copy to sim card
