N95-3 Can't Connect to AT&T Blue

Hi all,

I just bought a Nokia N95-3 off ebay, and when I try to make a call it says "Emergency calls only!" The phone was advertised as quad-band and unlocked. My sim card is older, but I never had a problem with other unlocked phones I purchased. I always just popped the sim in and it worked. I wasn't planning to use 3G (not supported in my area anyway), so I didn't think I needed a 3G sim card. The sim card did copy my contacts over, so I know it was put in correctly. Any help would be appreciated!

My info:
Carrier: AT&T Blue
Location: USA

Phone: Nokia N95-3
V10.2.006
22-08-07
RM-160
Nokia N95 (19.01)

I just tried that and it returned the error, "Unable to use network. Phone is currently in offline mode."

You might want to contact AT&T about this- even though you're not connecting to the 3G network (since it's not available in your area) you very well may still need a newer 3G card from them. From what I just read on an AT&T support forum, you should be able to walk into an AT&T store and get a replacement SIM card.

Otherwise, if you know someone with a newer 3G AT&T SIM- try popping that in there. If it still comes up "Emergency Calls Only"... it might have some sort of lock on it. There's no branded N95-3, so I would assume it's not locked to some other network. It's worth a shot to rule out anything like that though if you can get your hands on someone's SIM card.

Thanks for the quick help. Does that site indicate if I'd have to get a new plan? I'm on an old old AT&T plan before they even switched to Cingular, and they never seem to give me the time of day unless I switch to a new (less minutes / more expensive) plan.

Thanks again for the help.

Oh boy, am I a dolt! I just changed the profile from "offline" to "normal" and it works! Sorry for the false alarm, just got excited that my 500 dollar toy was a paperweight. Now to really start playing with it. My thanks to you both for trying to answer my stupid question. This looks like a great site, and I hope to contribute someday! :)
