Not sure if its too late now, but ring vodafone, and whomever you get put through to, ask to be put forward to retentions. They often offer much much better deals, and be sure to mention that your already signed up with Orange, and left due to bad customer service when asking for contract renewal.

the only good thing about 02 is their contract phones are always unlocked..... except iphone...but no cares about that!
orange are a wicked network...but i found them too expensive on payg dunno about contract...but vodafone are the best on coverage
t-mobile and 3 are a no no they are awful!!!
i'd honestly say go to orange but i can't say that because they are expensive.
vodafone tend to do wicked taraffs every now and then
but the choice is yours!!
hope ive helped!

... and they don't cripple the phone with branding and also are never far behind the sim free oficial firmware version.

Depending on where you are. I have 0 bars Vofafone here. If you live in a city, I guess you have the pick of the bunch as all claim 99% population coverage (I am the 1%!)

I have also steered clear of 3, but my brother swears by them. 3 were ahead of a lot of networks on fast data and video calling. AFAIK, 3 Piggy back on Orange and O2 - it's not their own network, so in terms of coverage, they can't be that bad. And they seem cheap. Also, unlike other branding, their phones offer additional functionality eg: they had a skype client months and months ago on x-series phones.
What I mean is, it's not neally fair to say a network is Awful without giving reasons. I personally wouldn't touch Orange because of the terrible branding they put on phones. Also from a business point of view, they insist on an IMEI change every year, which means you have to take new hardware which eats into your cash pot.
But I would be keen to hear the reasons that turned you against T-Mobile and 3. T-Mobile has no coverage for me, so I've never investigated them, but as far as I've seen, T-Mobile are doing some pretty competative tariffs at the moment.
I don't think there is any one network miles better than the other, all have benefits for different people, hence why the market is so competative. I think the most helpful thing we can do is to give the OP details about good and bad experiences we've had.
Hope that makes sense. :)

I know it may be a bit late now (14 day...) but I have been with Orange/ Virgin and Vodafone.
I was with Virgin early on- left swiftly
Then Orange for 11 years until January- They were really excellent until about 4 years ago. Craap service, all good features / innovations gone, costs up (charge for delivery reports)
Moved to Vodafone in January. Big mistake, everything is a hassle- so much hassle to get your phone fixed if it goes wrong. Nobody in the call centre can make a decision, they promise to call back, but actually do so <40% of the time.
Don't do Orange *Indian call centres
Don't keep Vodafone- advanced muppetry
If I could leave Vodafone without penalty I would happily walk away today
Everyone I talk to swears by O2 (not at them)
O2 seem the best at the moment (amazing what seperating from BT can do)
