Sports Tracker/A-GPS - Data Plans...
quick question to those who use sports tracker with a 'data plan';
i was wondering does the sports tracker app work ok with your data plan? or are the data plans only for 'browsing'?
(the same question could go for use of A-GPS)
thanks

I don't use Sports tracker so can't help you there, but A-GPS uses a negligible amount of data traffic for the initial lock, usually less than 10kB. I don't even notice a few pence gone and usually I have a PAYG card in.

That depends on your contract. Some are browsing only (usually via some network portal), and some are all types of data.

Even though a connection starts upon opening Sports Tracker i don't see much data used, and i use it every week.
The A-GPS connection data is very minimal too.

this is what i was thinking, hence me asking.. the network operator FAQs dont tend to mention it, i might have to fire off an email with the specific question

i assumed it would be small, but i will probaby be using both A LOT sometime soon, on a very regular basis.
i was wondering does the A part of A-GPS not kick in at anytime the GPS signal itself isnt too strong, not just on initial lock? (so if i was out on a long run/cycle/drive it may keep using data as and when it needs to)
with that in mind is why i was thinking about a tariff making it worth while...

What network you looking at?
I can only comment on vodafone, but their data is for whatever, doesnt matter what you use it for. Except maybe P2P, but that could be a wild rumour.
If you dont get a tariff with it on, its £5 for the rest of the contract, or £7.50 a month but you can cancel anytime. Thats for a FUP of 500mb (i.e. you can go over 500, but do it often and they will ring you up and say 'Oi').

currently - vodafone..
just about at the end of my contract though, so i was going to see what they offer me to stay (maybe free data - if it was of any use in this case) or a switch to tmobile for a better deal...

Seriously, call them up, then ask for retentions.
I have found that other departments, while they try to keep you, can offer nothing compared to retentions.
You might also say you have requested your PAC (I think) code. Makes them even more willing.

ahh that old chesnut....
(and yes it is PAC code - it allows you to keep your number on another network, so they know whats coming)
i will be asking for it dont worry - it usually gets them begging/offering and if its no use then i give the code to another networ and keep my number.. everyone's happy (apart from the vodafone rep who lost a customer)

Yeah, I always get it mixed up though, usually with PUC code!
I'll be in the same boat as you soon (ok, December), since I have bought my phone simfree, at renewal they have best offer me something ****ed good to stay.
