any new gsm carriers in canada yet?
OK last post for the day. Is there any new GSM carriers in canada yet? I know the wireless auction is completed. Are any new companies up and running, and if so are they worth leaving rogers for?
thanks

I've heard there were several new ones on the way, even where I live in little old Charlottetown, PEI there is news of at least two new carriers and from what I have heard both will be using GSM.

The only other one is Fido (and I'm not sure what/if they have a data plan for the Nokia). My understanding is that there will be more carriers but it will take some time for them to get established. For now, us Rogers people are out of luck.

I heard if you call Rogers and tell them you are leaving, or ask for Retention they will offer better rates to keep you.
Currently they want $30/month for 6GB data plan. Considering my unlimited home connection is about that, they can go eat dung. But I am going to call, see if they will reduce my plan or give me a better data rate plan.
Will try it and keep you posted!

Btw, if Rogers customers do not call and complain .... NOTHING will happen.
(yes, I wrote McDonald's once because they did not give me what I ordered in a drive through - got 6 free Big Mac meals for free....going to die soon....)

Data plan is expensive here in Canada that's just the fact but if you do get a better data plan please do let us know!

There are some new one's(Virgin, Koodo) but all CDMA, So for GSM were all still stuck with rogers, I have the $30/6gb plan, but now i'm stuck with them for 3years, with a maximun contract buyout of $400, if i want to leave early, I even work for AT&T in canada and am stuck with Mr. Ted Rogers.

OK here is what I found abou Robbers, I mean Rogers...
They have a data plan for a term - 3 years - $30 a month for 6GB. I called 'retention' and told them I was not happy with my plan. I found a better plan - more minutes and better calling times for $10 LESS a month (100 minutes, evenings and weekends free for $35, vs. 250 minutes, weekends and evenings free for $25). Remember in Canada we pay extra for 911 (we have to pay it) and the system access fee (which is a bogus cash grab, that we have to pay) and taxes.
Then I said $30 was too much per month. So they offered me $20 per month for the 3 year plan. However, is a cheap plan comes available, I can downgrade. But if I leave the plan - penalty. So I saved $10 off my plan, but paying $20 extra per month for internet access.
I would suggest you call you carrier and ask for something similar or better.
Give it a go - let me know how it turns out!

i used to work 4 dem, so kinda knew inside benifits(scams). after changing my job i called dem and said i got a better deal from Bell, so dey gave a PP for 25$ which gives me 350day time minutes, free eve n weekend after 6, unlimited txt, free CD, VM, PM and MMS. Also gave me 1000 LD minutes and a free razor (whichi gave to my mom). but i know how dey can fool u with data usage so i never asked for it. :-)
