Angry Rogers and carrier lock

Guys,

I bought my N95-4 at Bestbuy and paid full price.
It is a Rogers phone and is locked to Rogers network.

Am I right in saying that since I fully paid the phone, Rogers must unlock the phone at my request so I can pop any other carrier SIM card in the phone and have it to work with this other carrier ?

The point of locking the phone is because of multi-year contracts that lets you buy the phone at a fraction of the price right ? (rogers own protection)

Now is appears that the tech support will not unlock my phone under no circumstances. The tech was very evasive and I know he must have a way to provide an unlock code if I give the phone ID. He wants me to roam on every GSM network I go in the world and pay huge roaming fees. This is bad business conduct. If I completely paid for this phone, they must not limit this phone capabilities and restrict my choice of network.

What do you think ? Anyone with similar experience and advise to me ?

Thanks

First off rogers will not give you the code. They do not give it out no matter what you say or do! So simply spend 20.00 can and have it unlocked. I am in the toronto area pm me and I will tell ya where.. I have to get mine done.. already debranded and ready to be unlocked..

hi.. i to have a n95-4 from rogers and they wont give you the code... even if you paid full price for it. because rogers themselves brought in that phone to make money on it and are the only ones right now with the legal rights to retail that phone in canada it is a conflict of interest if the willingly give you the code for u to go take the phone and go to another provider to give them the business. they are only looking out for them selves... so if you want an unlocked n95 i would return it and get back ur $700+ that u paid and go to the place as said above and get an unlocked n95 for (more than likely) cheaper and with out all the rogers hassle and thier branding.. if you want to keep the rogers one so that u know that u have a genuine phone and not being robbed you can take the phone to a place called pacific mall its in scarborough at steeles and kennedy and get it unlocked for around $25+ and then you can use it on any service provider u want to be with

Well... I have spent the dough on the remote unlock service and it did work.
Now I am wondering how they do it ? Correct me if I am wrong but there is no real and working BB5 cracker available... and if there would be one, it would have been leaked widely in the community by now since N95 remote unlocking services have been offered for a good time.
The only conclusion I see is that they get the codes from some Rogers employees and they split the profit.
Makes sense ?

Do you think that anyone at rogers has the grey matter to know the codes. They do not. They can not even answer your questions when you ask them.

There are places in toronto that can unlock any phone and any carrier. How they do it is a guarded secret, well not really its done with the aide of the IMEI . A few of the places that I have gone to use a service to get the codes. Now I am sure there is a master list of these codes because Nokia locks some of the phones for certain markets for others its left unlocked. Rogers does not unlock phones simply because they do not want to. No one is making them do so. For 20.00 its unlocked and you are rid of them. I would gladly have a locked phone IF they did not cripple the phones AND had better plans.. Bell has rollover mins.. and Fido No SAF what does rogers have? CSR's that have PMS and the I.Q. of lasts nites pasta.. do not get me wrong.. last nites pasta was brilliant but that was last nite.
