will it work with tmobile pay-as-you-go in US?

Hi, will the N95 work with T-Mobile's pay as you go plan in the US? I hate talking on the phone so I don't use enough time to justify any other calling plan. All of the other features of the phone are what is important to me.

thanks!

I use Tmobile's cheapest plan with no frills, $29.99/mo.

As Tmobile doesnt support the phone in any way (most service commands don't work, at least not the ones quoted in the manual) you have to rely on the SIM card tmobile gives you to work... mine works fine. I would GUESS that the pay-as-you-go plan will work as well. If I were you I'd take the phone, go to a tmobile store, get them to put the chip in for you (they might refuse, but frankly, when I go to a store with a cool phone like the n95 most employees are happy to do what you want just to get a chance to play with it) - and give it a shot. If it doesnt work, then you can always just get the cheapest standard plan.

Geoff, thanks for your response, but I am confused. Are you saying that t-mobile stores would have an n95 there and I can take my sim to try it with the phone? I didn't think tmobile stores carried them in the US. Or are you saying that the n95 use a different type of sim than my existing GSM phone that I am using now with t-mobile pay-as-you-go?

If you already have a T-Mobile SIM you should be able to drop it into your N95 without an issue. Your N95 should work just as your pay-as-you-go phone does now. You don't even need to go into the store if you already have the SIM.

Right, if you have an unlocked nokia you should have no trouble using the tmobile SIM - it's what I do.

No, the stores don't carry n95s. I meant, you could take your n95 in, and have them put the chip in and check to make sure it all works on their system. As I said, I've found the store people more than willing to do that so long as they get to play with the phone :)

I don't have a n95 but as I said I do have t-mobile pay as you go account. I am asking the question *before* I buy a $700 phone. I still don't understand the point of going into the store, as I am capable of pulling a SIM out of one phone and putting it into a different phone. Unless you mean something other than the sim when you say "chip" that needs to be moved between the phones.

Thanks for your help.

lol, this is getting too complicated.

I'm sure you are quite capable of pulling the SIM card out etc.

That's what I did, with my old tmobile phone sim, and I've had no trouble with the n95 on the tmobile network - except that some commands don't work, and there is an unresolved SMS issue.

But a few years back, I had a P800 and I was having trouble, it wouldn't work on the sim card from whichever provider (I think it was cingular?). So I went into the store and they were very happy to check through it... ended up programming a whole new sim card for me.

It wasn't that I thought you needed it; I was only giving some generic advice, that if you had trouble, the store guys would help.

Not sure why this has become such a complicated issue :)
