850 and 1900. Most phones are tri or quad now anyways though.

I doubt it..... the vast majority of Canadians and North Americans probably wouldn't buy enough of them due to the state of the industry (One of the highest ARPU in the world), and the consumer interest (Low penetration, feature usage, etc.).

Only leaves a small number of us that push the envelope.. usually technophiles and world travellers.. :)

Yeah ... I got mine at Pacific Mall ( An Asian Mall) up on Steeles/Kennedy in Toronto. I do not see it out on the normal stores. So .. yeah .. the target market in Canada is not as high as those in Asia. In Asia .. new phones comes out every 2-4 months! Crazy ... here ... you can have the N95 for 6 years .. and people still did not notice its a very old one .. haha .. good and bad .. lol

If you don't mind me asking, how much are they charging in pmall now for the N95? Have they matched Tiger Direct, but with no tax?

Nope.

An official N95 would work due to its quad band aerial ;)

No. It'd require so much to do it, it'd be better to buy a new phone.

Changing the frequency would require different physical hardware and possibly a different physical design of the PCB and other components. It's not something that can be just switched like turning a light on or off. That's only assuming it was actually similar enough to a real N95.

BTW, it's 850 and 1900 Mhz in Canada.. just like the US... It's 900/1800 Mhz everywhere else.

You're probably best served by giving up on the knock-off you bought and shelling out the $700 or so to get one from a reputable dealer.

I live in Montreal and I got mine from Dubai. All I had to do was put my sim card and start using the phone (I'm with Rogers). Completely effortless. My only issue is that the GPS thinks I'm down there haha

IMO, GSM is the best alternative as the network is strong and your phone options are pretty much limited to the size of your wallet
