Angry Buyer Beware in Canada

Hello everyone.
I thought I pass on a little experience I just had.
I am in Canada (Toronto) and bought my N95 from Tigerdirect.ca in June. Last week it developed a problem with the micro switch controling the Volume Up. You can read my Thread about that in "Its Broke."
Called TigerDirect; They said since its pass 30 days I have to go to Nokia.
Called Nokia; They said this phone is not covered by Nokia Canada since it is a USA phone and I have to go to Nokia USA. Nokia USA wont deal with you unless your Billing and shipping address are both in USA.
Called Tigerdirect back and they agreed to ship me a new phone, very nice of them, but after that I am pretty much on my own.
You can buy the extended waranty, but it doesn't kick in till after the manufacturer waranty runs out. Which means you're kinda stuck with inconvenient or no service for aproximetly 9 months (1 month dealer waranty and couple of months grace period taken for granted.)

So beware: Unless you know someone in the USA that will go to bat for you, you might have problems with Manufacturer waranty.

Other then that, its a pretty sweet phone and works just fine with Rogers.

I'd email Nokia and kick off at them.

BUT, Nokia don't offer warranty outside countries/regions as you've found. So unless you can convince Nokia to change their warranty to include Canada as part of the North American region, you'll always be on your own I'm afraid.

Many here have taken the same risk by buying from APAC or EU regions too - some without fully understanding what this means *should* their beloved N95 develop faults.

And on that, I'd suggest those with the option of getting phone insurance take it. for me it means 24 hour replacement. Without it, means 4-8 weeks with Nokia UK and NO phone.

You pays your money, you takes your chances folks.
