Obv the OP didn't check it was unlocked when buying from ebay seller, or assumed it was.

Always demand proof of unlocking before parting with cash folks.

Buying a phone from ebay is risky anyway even if covered by paypal buyer protection. The phone can get barred/blocked more than 45 days after you have bought it and both paypal and ebay will wash their hands of it. The guy who sold me a stolen phone is still trading on ebay under the same id.

Yikes!

Didn't you report it to the police?

No, I couldn't get anyone to confirm it was stolen. CPW told me on the phone but wouldn't confirm it in an email. They didn't seem to want it back either.

I'd report it to the Police.

CPW must have some good reason for knowing it's stolen, and if it's the common block list - then the police have access to it too! ;)

solidsnakept2002... Get your sister to call Voda UK and tell them that it's her phone and that she needs it unlocking as she's going abroad soon... Not sure what they charge btw...

Any code given to her will work on your phone wherever you are, the unlock code accesses only the internal software algorithm of the phone, it doesn't need to connect to a carrier in order to unlock.

I'd be inclined to buy his cheapest item... And then use the feedback option to denounce him and warn others...

EDIT: And heed Gadgetman's following advice too! ;)
