Are Orange selling modified sim-free N95s?

I just had my N95 delivered as part of a contract with Orange. It's running the usual Orange branded firmware (v10.0.x) but the phone looks like a sim-free model! There are no logos printed on it and it came in a plain nokia box ... but the really odd thing is that the product code printed on the sticker under the battery is not the same as the one reported by the NSS software!

Anyone ever seen them do anything like this?

You might have a freak sim free model. Check what the product code is an match it against the known list... :)

Well NSS says 0548170 which is orange, but the sticker says 0548763 which is not on the list but there is mention of that code being on a sim-free phone.

I think I should revert it back to the way Nokia intended

That code seems to be a US Generic code. Looks like someone has been changing product codes on their service replacement stock.

Type *#92702689# (*#WAR0ANTY#) to see how long the phone has been used to make and receive calls to make sure its a new one.

It was sold as a refurbished unit and it came 'as new', the life timer only has 1.30 on it.

Also it appears to be unlocked, I just tried a vodafone sim and it worked fine.

I just made a contract with them ...

first they wanted me to pay £50 monthly for 24 month and pay 49.99999 for the phone. Then I told them with O2 I can get the phone free. Ok then we give the phone free as well. Then I told them with O2 the contract is only £30 with a 18 month contract. So they reduced the price to £35 for 14 month. Now I can be really worried until my first bill ... and they also promised that I can reduce it after the first 9 months. We'll see ...

I got my N95 on Orange online via Phones4U.

I got a free N95 and my 18 month contract costs £35 per month with 500 mins and 500 text messages with 12 months 50% cash back.

I already had 1Mb Orange broadband for which I was paying £14.99 which was upgraded to 2Mb and which I now get free - so the effective average monthly cost (taking all these factors into account) is £8.33! £150 over 18 months.

P.S. I forgot to mention that the phone is totally unbranded and unlocked.
