Angry vodafone charging me Internet access whilst I used my own WIFI

Hi All,

Due to the trouble vodafone website, I can only view my online billing now.
I just found out thta vodafoen ne is charging me [even though not much, something like 1p or 2p] for internet access. I am be sure that I have chosen the option to confirm the network before I connect the N95 to the internet or get my web feed.

I rang them up and they said vodafone will charge you for the connection even I use my home wifi. Therefore I logged a formal complaint and waiting for them to call me back.

Does any have similar problem? If this is true, then why don't they disable the N95 wifi?

I am very annoy and angry about this.

Cheers,

Lee, Vodafone UK users

whoa, why are they charging you if you're using your home wifi? you're not using their service when you're to your own wifi.

make sure you double check to see if u have used packet data by accident. go to the n95's log andlook at packet data. any data transferred over wifi will not show up there. but data over EDGE/3g or whatever will show up. If there is packet data transferred then u will get charged.

well I am pretty sure that I only use my home wifi as I am scare to death the cost that is going to mount if I use Vodafone Internet Access or WAP. I had that experience using it in France whilst on holidays and I paid a hefty price for using the net. It just does not make sense unless there are programme that can start itself and use the internet.

When I spoke to the Customer Service, she insist the network will charge me for connection the the internet even though I am only using my home wifi. Well, the callback [about my complaint] has not ring me back yet.

They are talking BS.

Make sure under settings>access points it's set to 'always ask' and that every app which could connect to the net also has this set (some override the main settings)

If you use maps, ensue AGPS is disabled, as well as network for positioning.

Sounds like AGPS is using the network to get a lock to me for that small sum of money.

It's impossible for Vodafone to charge you for using your home Wifi connection. The reason being as you're using the handset and your own network, they are not able to see when your doing it (as your not using their network).

If you're being charged, I would check your settings as the chances are your not connecting properly, so it's defaulting to GPRS.

As a fellow vodafone customer I can tell you that is complete rubbish.

I can also tell you the customer service monkeys at vodafone are pretty useless and most of them don't have a clue.

Also, as you might know, the billing system got royally screwed a few months ago and it has taken this long to get it up and running again.

And if you ever get that callback I'll eat my hat.

There is one way to get hold of someone with a clue, use the contact us form on the vodafone website and start your message with " Dear FIT135 ", that will get your issue dealt with by staff on a special project to solve problems which have been put in the public eye on forums such as this.

I was charged when I got my phone.
Which I thought it was still on the limit, (120MBpm)
Vodafone gave me back 35 pounds credit.
But whatever appears in your Packet Data is chargeable

ONLY if the data was using vodafone.

If you're using wifi, then they cannot charge you for it. It's VERY important that you check you internet capable applications VERY carefully, and enable 'always ask' to double check you use the right data connection.
