Transferring number

I have just received my new N95 from Vodafone (we get a salary saver mobile through my work) unfortunately I didnt click the move number option when I ordered the phone, but I thought I could transfer it over using a PAC code from O2

I phoned up and they said they couldnt do it as the phone had been issued, I asked them why they could not do it which they could not answer she then said they would then transfer the number. The girl I spoke to said providing I had used my new sim then it will be fine, unfortunatley I have (only for one phone call) but decided not to tell them to see if the number will be ported accross

basically I really want to keep my current number, but will the fact I have used the phone once mean that it cannot be ported accross?

It shouldn't make any difference whatsoever

I've changed my SIM card many times and had the same phone number for about 10years - Never had any problems with using my phone before/during/after the number changing proccess

The fact that the number is associated with the new provider and you (After it has switched) means it shouldn't make a difference whether your usage is billed to you from one number or another

I wouldn't worry about it

If you are still in the first 14 days of the contract you can cancel it and return the phone, (It doesn't matter if you've used the SIM or not). Then you could re apply using the PAC.

Try calling them to set up your new deal to make sure they have your PAC from the onset then you can be sure it will be done as a port and not a new connection. If you're Vodafone staff then you'd need to do it through staff accounts and you should have the number for that.

If you're past the 14 day cooling off period but you explain what's happened, then at their discretion they may decide to let you cancel it and return the phone and set up your ported number instead on a new deal. They wouldn't be obliged to though after 14 days.

Well its D-day, my O2 contract is not working as the sim card failed when I switched on my 2nd phone, checked my Vodafone account and my number has not ported accross, does it take a while for the numbers to be changed over, or has it got wrong?

well was fed up waiting so checked the vodafone website which said that they could not port it across as there was a new number issued. Phoned the company that does our phones and the lovely girl did a quick 5 min job on her pc and swapped my number across very quickly, yay at least i can now use my phone properly
