no 3G/GPRS while on the phone
i jst noticed something.. i was on the phone yesterday (via BT handsfree), got in my car and started my car. then i activated my GPS (while chatting on the phone), and it could not connect to the network (the 3G sign is shaded grey.. and was blinking at times), and AGPS is not working.. i was waiting patiently to get a lock..
then when i was done chatting on the phone.. the 3G logo suddenly change to dark solid colour.. and within seconds, i obtained GPS lock!
which made me ponder.. and i did some experiments.. i cant access internet services while im on the phone!
same thing with u guys?

Yes, same here. It actually caused me a bit of trouble yesterday. I was using Google Maps to get directions while I was driving and I got a call, so it couldn't update the map anymore.

As far as GSM Assosiation standards apply, most mobile devices now are considered 'Class B' devices - Meaning they cannot simultaneously use a GSM and GPRS connection, but will 'pause' a data connection if interrupted/made unavailible by GSM activity
Higher end 'Class A' devices allow the two to work alongside eachother - Undoing restrictions most of us are stuck with until companies start broadening the future of these features

Well, before cable broadband, you could not use the internet and the phone at the same time..

I can recieve calls while browsing the web or downloading, even using the phone as a modem for my laptop.
Sounds like an issue with your cellphone provider.

I can browse the 'net (3G connection) and receive phone calls at the same time on the Vodafone Australia network.

The GPS receiver is VERY sensitive as it has to receive signals from satellites that are 35,000km away.
I would suspect the GPS receiver circuitry is disabled while the phone is transmitting to prevent damage. I destroyed a bluetooth GPS receiver once by carrying it in the same pocket as my mobile phone.

The thread is about GP RS not GPS.
