T-Mobile UK HSDPA?

Not had my N95 that long, just under a week now and getting to grips with it. I'm on T-mobile UK and have Web 'n' Walk but my problem is that I do not seem to have any setting in Packet Data referring to high speed connections.
I have Packet data connection, and Access Point. Does this mean I wont be browsing via HSDPA? As far as I can tell, T-mobile UK supports this but as there is no setting on my phone am I not getting it? Or is it somehow automatically configured by Tmob?
Since I have a decent monthly data allowance and use apps such as aMaze and make use of the browser almost daily, I like to know if I'm getting the speed I should be getting or not. Would it be worth unbranding maybe?

If you have the latest version of the software installed on the phone, it will indicate when you are using HSDPA, by changing the 3G icon to 3.5G

Thanks for the reply.
I'm running V12 firmware.
Well when I switch to Dual Network mode for data connection, it says 3G under the signal bars, have never seen it say 3.5G. Would unbranding fix this or should I just get in touch with T-Mobile?

I had to request that T-Mob-UK enabled HSDPA on mine before I saw the 3.5G icon appear on-screen.

Thanks man, nothing more helpful than hearing from someone on the same carrier.

I just rang them up (before reading your post sadly) and the guy I got told me its all enable dispite only seeing "3G" and no option for high speed internet.
Obviously after reading this, it appears he was lying, I think I'll ring back up and ask for it to be enabled :)

....where that thanks button....?

When you contact T-Mob, ask if it's rolled-out yet in your location... I also had trouble finding someone who even knew what HSDPA was!

I don't have a Thanks button btw, bit awkward when my sig urges folks to use it! ;)

Thanks again spook. If I didn't know it needed to be activated I would have been stuck it seems.

Phone call 1; response: It's all automatically enabled and just works.
Phone call 2; (now constantly repeating "someone in a forum explained it had to be enabled") lots of explaining of the problem and missing menu option, several "Please hold for a couple of minutes while I check the system" (more like asking a colleague :P ) eventually put through to Technical Dept, bit more "system checking" and finally get told the system has changed and the setting now has to be activated and will be done for me within the hour.
We'll have to wait and see. :)

-------

A short while later the option appears for High Speed Data Access within Packet Data, and connecting to Web N Walk now shows 3.5G
Glad to finally have this feature working, can't imagine how many other TmobUK customers are losing out. Massive difference in speed instantly.

Thanks again! :)

Bizarre; I'm on T-Mobile and never had to phone them to have it enabled. Could it depend on what tariff you're on? I'm on web & walk plus so perhaps HSDPA was enabled by default?

I'm guessing but I imagine the scenario at T-mob was as follows...

Initially... Not many customers have HSDPA-capable handsets... no point in informing our CS-ops about it... Customers will ask for it if they REALLY want it and as some areas can't get it anyway, we can check into it IF they enquire about getting it enabled.

Then... Hmm... Seems quite a few customers know about it and want it, this is taking-up CS-ops time unnecessarily, so we'll auto-enable it on HSDPA-capable handsets.

Recently... Just a minute! were using extra capacity to supply HSDPA to customers who don't even know what it is and who wouldn't miss it it if they hadn't got it... no point in doing that... Let's wait until they actually ask for it in future...

As I say, I'm just guessing! ;)

You raise some good points there spook, but either way without you telling me what you did I would probably not have the feature now :)
