Anyone on vodafone UK updated to v20

Just wondering if anyone with a vodafone UK branded handset has updated their firmware to V20 by changing the product code and did you have any issues or have any suggestions.

Also did you wipe everything and start again or did you restore and get all your applications and settings back.

If I get time over the next few days I'm going to do mine so any tips will be welcome.

Can't see vodafone ever bothering with an official update, we are still stuck on v11 and they are only ever interested in new customers.

I'm on Vodafone.

Backed-up to memory card and removed it.
Changed my product code with NSS
Installed the update using the Official Nokia Updater
Replaced and restored from my memory card.
Had to re-install a few apps:
- yBrowser
- Calcium calculator
- Route 66

But the rest re-installed automatically.

Had a few worrying moments during the update. The time remaining counter jumped from 15mins to 4 mins to 24mins to 5mins etc etc It was all over the place. Windows kept playing the USB connect/disconnect tone every now and again and it looked like a new USB driver was installed by the Nokia updater at some point. But after about 15minutes actual time the update reported it had completed OK. That was 4days ago. Phones been fine since v.pleased with v20.

Updated yesturday with no problems as above. Software is much better than version 11 (latest update by vodafone).

Phone took the WAP and Internet settings from the SIM card, so did not have to re-enter them.

I used to have problems connecting to my wi fi at home, as its a hidden network. Sometimes it would not find it, however since the update, its been working correctly.

As its a mjaor software update, i started from fresh - ie did not use the backup / restore. It may work fine, but some people have mentioned some issues with doing this. A fresh install means a clean system!

Vey happy with the update.

im on voda and have updated to v20.

my access points have changed, it used to have a lot listed, Contract Internet, Contract WAP, PAYG Internet, etc etc

now i just have Vodafone Live, Vodafone MMS and Vodafone Internet GPRS

I have been using Live, as i have a data allowance on my contract. I'm a little weary about using the wrong one and being billed. Does it sound like i am using the correct one?

I ended up with the same access points, but they are the correct ones, just titled differently. Vodafone Live is WAP and Vodafone Internet is .... Internet. You can use either however you need to use the Vodafone Live (WAP) option to access vodafone line. A benifit of using the WAP option is that you can set up your account (from the voda live page on your phone) to compress/optimise pages for WAP. If you use the Internet access point, then you will get the full internet page downloaded if it is not a moblie page. Both fall under your data allowance.

I have been using them without a problem and im guessing that they were taken from the voda sim card.

If your still unsure, down load new settings from vodafone with this link

Arrow

Im on Vodafone UK, i changed my product code and updated then changed it back again. I basically did the same as everyone else, i jsut made a note of what applications I had and reinstalled them etc..

I emailed vodafone to see if they where planning on giving us a branded firmware.. which I probably wouldnt want anyway.. lol..

Heres what they said: "Regarding the firmware software you need to contact manufacture. Alternatively you can visit any of your nearest Vodafone Retail Store. To find nearest store please click_here"

Its up to them and not nokia to supply it.. isn't it? so I dont know why they told me to contact nokia about.. unless they were hinting me to change my product code? lol..

Yes, I'm pretty sure the way it works is that Nokia release new firmware for generic phones and give a copy to the network operators who can then test, customise and release if they see fit. Vodafone often don't bother with what they see as 'minor' releases.

Did mine on Monday
Most stuff auto re-installed from the memory card - some I had to do manually.
Seems a lot better than v12 - even battery live looks better.

Same thing on the internet connection settings though - none say contract anymore.
When I upgraded to v12 used the Vodafone over the air thing (above) and got sent the right stuff all looked fine.
Tried it this time and have not got a message back (Roaming at the moment so will try agin when back in the UK)

Dont think the service is working at the moment. - I havnt received the text with the settings either. However the default ones from the sim are correct - they just have different descriptions.
