Angry Vodafone UK...

Vodafone [UK], just started to pi** me off..

I have been a loyal customer to Vodafone, been with them since I don't know when! About a month and a half ago got my son a contract with them got the phone, nothing wrong with that. But my son started getting random calls from people who knew a guy called 'Alex', he got calls from several people asking for Alex. Someone said to him Alex had used this number before not so long ago, therefore people still thought this was his number and continued to text and phone my son.

This started to become quite annoying so I got in touch with Vodafone requesting a number change... you won't beleave this bit.. they want me to pay them £25.00 to change the number! Just because they gave my son a number that had been used recently perhaps by someone who disconnected from Vodafone.

I am not happy with this £25 charge as i know other networks such as 02-UK will change your number for free if you wish. Vodafone will only do this for free IF you report these nusience calls to the police and get a crime number.. I doubt my local police station is going to be bothered with that, it's also a lot of hassle.

I would of been happy to pay something like £5, but £25 is just over the top for a straight forward number change.

What are you views on this? Would you pay £25 to get your number changed?

I hear ya, Storm. I've had loads of problems with Vodafone and like you, I've been a loyal customer for a few years now.

I'm now considering leaving them in March, when my contract is up.

I am thinking of doing the same, My first contract I had with them is up sometime in 2008, but the one I just toke out, the second one, is not until March 2009, it'll be fine as long as that person Alex's mates stop ringing and texting, they should eventually stop lol..

I emailed Vodafone complaining about the price, ill post up here what they say.. if anything..

storm, I'm sorry to hear of the trouble you've had when contacting Customer Services.

What's happened with your son's new phone is very rare, but unfortunate at the same time. Under these circumstances it's Vodafone's policy to change the number for you free of charge (as it's not your fault you're receiving nuisance calls.) I apologise for the minsinformation over the phone, but if you contact us again we'll resolve this for you right away. Please fill in the Vodafone Online Contact Form entering as many details as possible so that we can resolve your query right away. Please also include the code FIT135 in your message so that your email comes directly to this team.

Hope this helps,

edwardpeter

I thought there was some sort of time period operators gave numbers for cooling off, so to speak. In that a number that had stopped being used was given a time not to be used again to prevent this sort of thing happening.

Perhaps I was wrong, or maybe they have reduced/got rid of it?

Yeah I thought there would of been something like this aswell, as I was recieving calls from that persons friends and also from people who were offering him jobs, I think he wasn't expecting to be cut off or else he would of told these people about the number change.
