This is my first post. YAY! Ok, here goes:

I am in the same situation as RobtWms. My home region has Edge and that works great on my N95-3. I travel quite frequently and just returned from Buffalo, NY where AT&T is pumping out 3G. My n95 showed full signal and 3G where the E would be for Edge. Whenever I tried to use data service, I got a packet data error. Called AT&T, and had a similar conversation- they told me the N95 wasn't supported and is not compatible with US 3G. After explaining to the tech that there are 3 "flavors" of N95's and mine is (supposedly) US compatible, I was told that it had to be a config issue with the phone and to contact Nokia. ARGH!

After reading the above posts and also exploring the message boards on AT&T on the same topic, I'm convinced the problem must be my old SIM card. I'm going to go to an AT&T store and look into obtaining a new SIM. My current SIM is a prehistoric orange cingluar SIM.

I am on AT&T and have a -3 and it works just fine. I do have a newer 3g card. But i have used it with an older cingular card and it works great. Not sure if its your SIM card but why not try that upgrade.

I am in San Diego. Welcome aboard!

Most of the in-store associates at the AT&T stores usually don't help AT ALL with any technical questions.. My friend had some technical issues with his N75 last week, and he got them fixed by chatting online with an AT&T technician..

Tall Tommy,

You're on the right track. Last Sept, ATT gave me a new sim because the Moto v3xx was misbehaving. This N95-3 does 3G great when in 3G area with the same new sim.

Get a new sim!! Then the outstanding users on this board will help with any "config" problems.

UPDATE: It worked! I went to my local AT&T store and traded in my old orange Cingular SIM for a pretty new white one with a 3G. No charge, no hassle-- in fact the clerk at the store was totally fascinated with my N95. I gave a short demo- played my Tivo on it using the slingbox, google maps, internet radio- a couple of AT&T employees gathered round as they ooh'd and ahh'd over the glorious N-95. But I digress...

I just returned from a trip to Phoenix Arizona (um, Giants won. Yay!) where there's 3G everywhere. My phone worked awesomely there now that I have my new SIM. Problem solved.

Just to follow jkoppee comments,
I have a new N95-3 and 3g works well on it. Side Note,
I used Nokia Sports tracker today for a run and it was great
In reference to ATT, I have them as my carrier, but never , per prior suggestions, did I take the phone to them to change anything. I just placed the old sim from a razor that was ancient and everything just transferred automatically. I travel alot also, and when 3g is available, I see that notification on the phone. SWEET. So I guess it just comes down to the sim that you are using in reference to 3G
