I had to pay to get a N95-2 with payg sim unlocked stucbr. I had to ensure I had at least £19.99 credit when i made the call, and once I was completed with the process, the credit was taken, and phone unlocked!

Well I guess if she keeps it and wants it unlocked, she's need to put £20 in it so they conning barstwerds can take it..
Infact the when I got mine done a few weeks ago, the girl said "we'll take it off your c/card"...but then I phoned back and got it free....sounds to me that they dont know what there doing!

Apologies if you tried that already. The Fit135 team are usually poo hot on anything you send them.
Id send one asking for a refund tbh. Vodafone reps have said in many forums (including this one, and on the actual vodafone forums) that its free, so theres no reason you should be charged by ringing support.
Its a bit off loudly proclaiming they do unlocking for free when they are *still* charging people.
This issue was raised a while ago about the normal phone line staff still charging.

But that shouldnt make a difference.
If you bought it on PAYG, was it subsidised? I havent seen any subsidised phones for ages.
And also, theres total confusion at Vodafone about this. Some have been charged, some have not, some have been told you have to have been a PAYG customer for a year, etc etc.
If its not subsidised, I really don't see why it should cost you to unlock it.
Also, when did you get it? From a vertain date they are supposed to be giving out unlocked handsets, unless thats contract only.
If its not subsidised, people may as well just get the simcard from vodafone and buy the phone simfree.
That way you have a warrenty that wont get broken (debranding), and simfree.
Where did you get the phone from stucbr, on the voda site its not available on PAYG? So if its vodafone branded, then it must have come froma vodafone contract.
