Fake N95-2 BL-6F battery?

Hello all,

I recently bought another spare battery for my N95-2 to help me through very busy days.
I found a seller on ebay that would supply me with one for around 35 Euros. Amazon sells for around 38, and an official Nokia shop would charge me 66 Euros for it. So I went with the ebay guy. Although his feedback profile showed that some buyers complained of supposedly fake bluetooth headsets, I figured it was worth a shot - I can always return.

So yesterday the battery came. Even though the item description clearly said it was "New and in original packaging" - and even featured a photo of a BL-6F battery in original packaging - it only came in a little plastic bag. That can hardly be "new and in orignal packaging", right?

What's more, there is a sticker on the front side, that says "Nokia Pte Ltd. Date of Purchase". This sticker is NOT on the battery that came with my N95-.
I did a side-by-side comparison. The barcode that's on the battery in question looks a bit less precise in print. The hologram looks identical to the battery that came with the N95-2.
So, what do you guys think? Is it fake?
Here are two photos (front side/back side) of the battery I bought off ebay.
Is the hologram hard to counterfeit?
I emailed the seller and asked about the lack of proper packaging and the additional sticker. No response yet.

So? What do you think? I don't want to try if it charges in my N95-2 for fear it might wreck my phone. I've heard some pretty bad things around here regarding fake batteries and don't want to break my phone.

Kindly share your opinions. Thank you!

Check the link below, and check it.

Nokia Europe - Batteries - Check your battery

I would not be too happy, if i received something that was different to advertised.

Let us know your findings. If it does turn out to be fake, let Nokia know, brandprotection@nokia.com

After eyeballing the hologram for quite a time according to the website AND comparing it to the OEM-battery that was shipped with the N95, I believe that the battery is *real*.
So, is the hologram a guarantee that it's authentic?
Next step would be having a Nokia Service center examine it.

Is it worth it? Or can I be quite sure by verifying the hologram?
Thanks!

The hologram really doesn't mean much, you can buy rolls of holograms in China on the phone market.

They sit there all day long applying labels/holograms to batteries.

For the price you paid , it should be a genuine battery - there is a chance that it is genuine , could be either box-broken or also from 14 day return handsets.

The only way to be 100% sure is to get an original battery, break both open and compare the cells - the external part doesn't really mean anything.

Even a lot of service centres won't be able to tell if its copied or not without breaking it open.

Jutti, No worries, your battery is genuine. My N95-2 8GB came with a battery exactly indentical to the one you bought. Mine even has the "Nokia Pte Ltd. Date of Purchase" on the battery. I think it's just made at a factory in Singapore, since my phone has a seal on it that says "Nokia Pte Ltd. Singapore to prevent disassembly.

So, I emailed the seller and asked why the packaging that was promised in the item description was missing and why this sticker was on there. I received the response today.
He didn't answer at all, he solely said "If we shipped you an incorrect item, please send it back to us and we will examine it and refund you".
Now, you can wonder why he didn't bother answering at all, but I believe he is either not in the mood for answering tricky questions OR he knows the battery is fake and doesn't want to go into details.

In any case, I am returning it - mainly under the suspicion that it's fake. And I will also email him and say I won't pay for the item's shipping as it was his fault.

Sounds fair to you?

The seller will probably want you to pay for return postage. don't blame you for returning it though. This happens far too often imo, sellers advertising something as genuine, when its not.
