Thumbs up Cheap Maplin Rechargeable Mobile Power Pack

Just a heads-up for anyone interested...

I've been happy with the time between charges for my N95 8Gb except when I'm using the GPS, when it nose-dives. So I've been keeping my eye open for a cheap mobile power pack to re-charge it on the go. I know there are several types available but today I splashed out £9.99 for a unit from Maplin.

It's about the size of a playing card and is ten millimetres thick. It's a rechargeable pack and comes with a mains charger which, obviously, you'd not normally carry around with you. It also comes with a fistful of adaptors for most mobiles and other gadgets. Also, unlike the iGO unit, the adaptor is on the end of a cable, so the power pack and phone don't have to be kept together. It has an on/off button and four LEDs which show both the state of charge and the state of discharge.

It's too early for me to comment definitively on how well it all works in practise, but first impressions are good.

You can see the details here: Maplin > Rechargeable Mobile Power Pack but you might have to hurry - they say the price will revert to £19.99 after the 13th of May.

Only 2000mah capacity.

But the £9.99 promotion price is worth it.

Thumbs up

Received mine today. Looks great & very nice to the touch. Has same type of covering as N95 8GB. Took a couple of hours to fully charge. Four green led's show state of charge, these come on as device is charging, when all on it is fully charged. It is re-charging my N95 at the moment.
I know it would probably be cheaper to carry a spare battery, but you won't get a genuine Nokia battery for this price & it can be used to power all sort's of gadget's..
Still at £9.99 (15/05/08). In my opinion a bargain.

Hi aden

I know what you mean. When plugging it into the phone, it does'nt fit as tight as some.
But mine clicks into place & works perfectly.

Mine tends to fall out when using the phone, it's okay if it's placed upon a flat surface but...

Any ideas? Perhaps buy a CA-44 Cable to place upon the normal nokia adapter or Buy a mini-usb to mini nokia cable?

What do you suggest?

-Aden

EDIT: I've bought a CA-44 cable.. I'll let you know how it goes :)

Right.. works fine with the CA-44 cable. It was 2 for £2 on ebay.. unofficial but it's a cable so...

There is two ways it can be done when using the CA-44 cable (pictures included);

1. Maplin Charger, Adapter cable(Maplin), Normal Nokia Charge Adapter(Maplin), CA-44(eBay) [For charging with long cable]

2. Maplin Charger, Mini USB to Normal Nokia Charge Adapater(Maplin), CA-44(eBay) [For charging with short cable]

IMO, The Maplin Charger is absolutely worth it. :)

-Aden.

Nope, I haven't but it has the cable for it well.. It has a adapter that ends in a female usb to plug a male usb ipod charge cable in. I'll post a picture.
